EDIT: In 2008-09, Mikael Backlund (in his D+2 year) was sent to the Kelowna Rockets, where he put up a mere 30pts in 28 games (1.07 ppg), and his status as an NHLer was questioned. At 28 games, Nikoleev had 32pts (1.14 ppg) in a league that's considered hard to score in. Backlund's situation, as well as his style, are remarkably similar to that of Nikolaeev.

Kulemin. My bad. Belarusian I believe. He was the 2nd Russian after Grabovski in the post Sundin era.
Well, if he's trending like Backs, all the better. Middle 6 centers are also a premium position player.

I like to see Nikolayev keep scoring. I wonder if he’s eligible for college still or if he’s aiming to play for the Heat next year?

I fully expect him to be playing for the Heat next year. He looked pretty competent in the prospect games at camp this year.

Agreed, he came over here for a reason and if this was his audition to make the Heat he is passing with flying colors.

Tri-City loses to Omaha,3-2. No points for Nikolayev. 36gp/13g/28a/41pts,+22, 39 PIM. Tied for 16th in scoring, but only 12 skaters ahead of him have a better ppg than his 1.14. He is 5th in plus/minus.
Of course, no Sergeev due to suspension. 1.72 GAA, .929%, still by far the best goalie stats in the league-the next highest SV% is .914.
