As to your point, the only thing worse than losing Gaudreau for nothing would be signing him to a contract that kills the team’s ability to compete IMO. And life goes on in either case.
|
I would also be disappointed if Gaudreau decides to leave but it would also present the Flames with an opportunity to go in a bold new direction, especially if Tkachuk won’t sign long term.

It happens. Flames have done it twice. Wideman and Bouwmeester. Wasn't it a UFA swap for Bouw? Leopold and a pick or something?
And it was a 5th for Wideman.

The trick is if Jihnnys gonna walk, you absolutely have to back the brings truck up to Chucky door and get him locked Ling term. Because if you lose two star UFAs in quick succession because of Stubbornness, youve sent your organization back to the stone age. Not to mention how demoralizing it would be to their teammates.
Treliving better have leveled up his wizardry from Gandalf the Grey to Gandalf the white this offseason. Because if he hasn't.... oh boy.

Hey bro I never said I’d ‘renounce’ my fandom just said it would take a season or two for me to find my mindless ferver of watching each and every game in an 82 game schedule… which I’ve done since 2000. I’ve been through countless rebuilds , many downs and fewer ups with this team same as the rest of us here. GFG will always be my team chant my friend as the flames are my team and no not one player will change that but I’ll definitely need to take a bit of time to get over it if Johnny moves on.

No offence, but you should listen to yourself.
I doubt you’ll stay away for two weeks let alone two seasons. As textcritic said, sports are cyclical. The Flames will go on and let’s hope their next ‘franchise player is from AB or SK. Might be an easier sell for them to stick around a little longer.

Totally listening to myself and I know the product we are in for should we lose a player of johnnys calibre. Again not ‘completely staying away’ I’m just not going to be following/watching the games with the same diehard fandom I’ve exhibited for years and years. Might sound childish, #### on me for saying as much all you want but for a player to walk into UFA after putting up a season not matched by anyone in this franchise since the 80’s and maybe you can see where I’m coming from.

I think it also allows that team to sign him to an 8 yr contract as well where if he is close to where he wants to be logistically it could have a very significant effect on his cap hit over the life of the deal.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

That's been covered. The 8th year is only available to the team he played for at the start of the season. Or the year prior.

Also look, if Johnny leaves this team isn't full of slouches. In fact the opportunity present itself for a few players to expand their roles and get more ice.
Ill wager that Elias Lindholm is still a bona-fide star even after.

Would be great to see Weekes redeem himself here, although really he isn't announcing or even predicting anything. Just sort of stating the obvious. Baby steps I suppose.

At this point what motivation does Johnny have to sign before hitting FA in a few days? If he really wants to be here I can't see the Flames playing hardball, so what's the holdup if he's not interested in testing the market in a few days? I find this is an interesting situation.
