Yeah, this one and that one where the news crew was filming one building where people were being extracted only to turn around exactly as another building started collapsing behind them! It's horrifying to watch. The era of livestreaming disaster footage is not something I was really prepared for. Too many videos of children.

I didn't dig into how he cited it, but still I'm unfamiliar with the science. I agree though, this prediction is eerie.
Here's that tweet.

Thats why we need to build nuclear powerplants here.
People whining about that it's cold here in winter.... yeah ok.

The Cascadia event is due and when it rips it’s going to #### up the west coast of N America.
It will be at least a 8.5 quake but probably stronger (into the 9s). The damage to land and property will be catastrophic.

The one in 1700 is estimated to have been at least a 9.0.

Living on the west coast (especially between San Fran and Portland where there is a triple junction of tectonic plates) in the next handful of years would not be wise
It's a ticking time bomb

He put a red dot around one of the most seismically active areas on the planet and "predicted" an earthquake would hit "sooner or later". The guy just got really lucky with his timing, I imagine he's going to start making a ####load of other predictions now that he has his 15 minutes of fame and he'll be forgotten when none of them happen

Is that the one predicted to decimate the BC coast that we collectively don't address until we wake up one morning and thousands/tens of thousands of BC residents are dead?

What exactly do you mean by "we collectively don't address"?
Every resident from San Diego to Anchorage has been warned about this fault for about many many years, either move or take the chance, Yellowstone might blow up tomorrow and decimate Calgary yet we're still here.

This is another reminder that I really need to make an earthquake plan here in Vancouver with my family.
One of those things you always put off and just can't afford to.
So sad to see what's happening in Turkey right now, terrifying.

I don't think that's terribly catastrophic? It would be like a snow day, just black.

Technically, an earthquake can happen anywhere. It's far more likely to occur along fault lines and volcanically active areas, but nowhere is completely safe. When you look at where fault lines are, There are probably billions of people living in areas that could be decimated by earthquakes tomorrow.

Apparently around 5000 buildings collapsed I keep looking at the washington post and their estimates grew from 1700 at first to now 5000.. however I think the final toll is going to be catastrophic

Agreed. I was being pretty literal. It would be a bad day for us in Calgary.
"Buildings in zone 5 are still at risk of collapse if the roofs are not immediately cleared of ash. Trees would be severely damaged due to breaking of branches. Road transport would be halted due to build up of ash on roads and cars would stop working as air-filters become clogged. Rail transport and electricity may be cut as wet ash short circuits signaling systems and sub-stations"
