We probably couldn't have launched a response to it if we wanted to.

Its more festive?

You just wait until the Mexicans get spy balloons...they'll drop candy when you blow them up.

I Googled it and the best I could find is that satellites rely on their orbital path and pass over quickly to get snippets of information, while balloons can linger for a while, be sent directly to specific areas, and collect more data in a longer window of time. While China could launch more satellites to get more orbital paths, balloons are cheaper and still quite good at collecting information.

Yeah...I was actually talking about bazookas.

I am firmly on 'team balloon' and I want to see a resurgence of Zeppelins, the great airships of olden days!

I just think that if you cant hit a balloon with a bazooka then your bazookas suck.

There’s also geosynchronous satellites which is a certain height above earth and is synchronized with the earths revolutions making it appear stationary

But 35 thousand km above the surface means you need really, really good optical equipment to match the resolution you can get from a balloon at 20-40 km using an off-the-shelf full-frame sensor camera.

I doubt that if it is a spy satellite that its about taking pictures. Its probably got a sensor package looking at categorizing any active air defense sensors.

So...when do we have to beware the invasion from the Zeppelin Armada?

Just paint 'Goodyear' or 'Budweiser' on the side and they'll just let you float right on in!
