Well, some inspired tennis from Denis gets him back on serve. Such a roller coaster of quality.

I mean, Wu played okay, but that was really bad from Denis tonight losing 7-6 6-4
At this point it's a pretty safe bet that Shapo is never going to hit that level of consistency and play with the tactical awareness required to be a top 10 player for any length of time.
Shocking that after a somewhat brief run at a more sound game 12 months or so ago, he has completely reverted to bad Shapo. Almost like he learned nothing at all from what made him quite successful.

Shapo was complaining about how slippery the court was in Dallas last night, but his opponent didn't see to have any issues. Maybe a change of Nike footwear or going to a different sponsor might be in order as there has been a history of him slipping on courts (at least in a lot of matches I've watched).

Lots of players use Nike shoes and don't have the slipping issues. You would hope that this has been addressed with Nike and they could find him a shoe or compound that works for him. I can't say from afar what's going on with coaching but maybe footwork needs to be addressed more. I don't want to throw his coaches under the bus but it seems he hasn't found that coach that can get into his head. Maybe that coach doesn't exist but it would be a shame to see the talent wasted.
Yeah I don't have high hopes for Shappo. He's going to be another one of those disappointing pros that couldn't put it all together.
is to too late to switch to a two handed backhand...
the video that dash posted earlier about the extinction of 1HBH was depressing. it's officially dead on the women's side, and down to 10% of the top 100 on the men's, most of whom are probably older players with nobody new coming up to replace them. I guess we just have to enjoy these final years of watching Shapo jump out of his shoes for the occasional sweet backhand winner, before it fades completely into history.
If you don't want to watch the video and just want the ChatGPT rankings, they are as follows:
1. Novak Djokovic
2. Pete Sampras
3. Roger Federer
4. Rafael Nadal
5. John McEnore
6. Bjorn Borg
7. Jimmy Connors
8. Ivan Lendl
9. Rod Laver
10. Boris Becker
