Default Summer 2015 Prospect Ranking - Round 4

It's time.

Calgarypuck's 3rd annual Prospect Ranking Poll!

Going with the 25 and under with 65 or less games played at the NHL level which actually works pretty closely with my own rule of thumb of "anyone not too old that hasn't been penciled in".

Therefore Granlund, Ortio and Ferland are still prospects, with Jooris 5 games light of the 65 game limit.

Monahan and Gaudreau are young but clearly established and no longer prospects. Bennett may be penciled in but he's only played 12 NHL games and is a prospect.

Previous Two Editions
2014 - http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...highlight=poll
2013 - http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...ospect+Ranking

Rankings:

1. Sam Bennett - 96% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=147961)
2. Emile Poirier - 38% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=147973)
3. Jon Gillies - 35% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=147982)

The rise of Ferland, most likely going to take this round for spot #4, up from 14 (tie) last season thanks to the Mother Hawk.

I think Ferland, will be a 2nd line power forward (not this year but soon). He should have won round 3.

I like Gillies but seems to high to me. Ortio has succeeded in the AHL and a brief stint in the NHL. I want to see Gillies do it outside of Providence before I'm ready to put him above Ortio.

Gillies is one of the top goalie prospects in the entire NHL. He's right where he should be.

Sticking with Ortio (still think he could be higher than Gillies, based on his actual performance in the NHL/AHL). Ferland would be second choice, but then we are getting more into the perceived "potential upside" of the prospects, which should be fun.

Ferland should be in our top 10 prospects, but I really can't see him being much more than a 3rd line energy guy

The prospect pool looks a lot weaker than it did last year.

Funny how that happens.

I'm going to be voting for Granlund for quite a while, apparently. The other guys who have won/are winning are definitely in my top 10 though.

If you're going NHL ready, why not Ortio over Granlund? He's got a higher ceiling.

I went Ferland over Ortio here. His impact in the playoffs can't be ignored. I agree with others that wonder if he can do that for a full season, but bottom line the Flames found a guy that can get under the opposition skin, and still be productive - so very valuable.

The interesting thing about Ferland is the fact that we really haven't seen him drop the mitts much yet at the NHL level, he's going to surprise the first person that grabs him this season. Bieksa was lucky he didn't get free.

I've voted Ferland since #2 as I believe he will one day be a top 6 power forward, but would've voted Ortio over Gillies given what he proved this year in the NHL/AHL. This is coming from someone who voted Gillies last year.

Ferland - the guy has a very unique set of skills. My only concern with him is whether he can stay healthy, but, I don't think we're factoring in injury concerns with these prospect rankings. Atleast I'm not.

Exact same with me. Ferland since #2 and would have picked Ortio over gillies.

3rd times a charm for Ferland

Love the trolls with the single votes for rafikov, agistino and Bruce

Ortio was my #3 choice. I'll keep voting for my #2 choice until he's in.

We will have to see...We have the Jankowski standard to measure by.... he went from #5 in 2013 to #11 in 2014. He had a much better year in 2014-15 so if he drops below #11 then the CP overall evaluation of the prospect pool is that it is deeper.

Not adding 1st round pick this year also makes it appear somewhat weaker.

In 2013 our 2013 3 1st round picks were 1, 9 and 10
In 2014 our 2014 1st round pick was #2

If we drafted a Pelech/Chucko or Niemsiz with the 15th pick overall this year I am pretty sure that CP would listen to the rationale provided by the Flames management team and have him in the top 5 Jankowski style.

Be interesting where as good as 1st round picks Andersson and Kylington fit in.

Ferland, third time in a row. When a guy was already a big difference maker in a playoff series win, that's extremely promising.

I'm still going for Ortio since round 2. As has been said, like Ferland's game alot but he's a 3rd liner, and Ortio will be an important number one (at least until Gillies competes for it).

Ortio due to potential Starter goalie Ceiling.
