Default GAME 15: Saskatchewan at CALGARY

Game Start: Saturday, October 31st @ 1:00pm (McMahon Stadium)
TV: TSN, ESPN3

Stampeders need to win the last 2 games (Saskatchewan and BC Lions) while Eskimos lose their last game against Montreal Alouettes in order to win the Western Conference title and a bye in the Round 1 of the playoff. Lose a game or Eskimos winning their last game means Calgary will play either BC Lions or Montreal.

OFFENSE:

First game for RB Jerome Messam wearing the Stamps jersey and it is only fitting that he will play against the team that traded him. Messam is still in the running for winning the Rushing Title. QB Bo Levi Mitchell is getting close to 5,000 passing yards in the season and with 2 games left, he will definitely reach that plateau. R Jeff Fuller and RB Jon Cornish will miss the game tomorrow due to injury. R Eric Rogers is leading the CFL in receiving yards and he's got a 60-yards lead over 2nd place Adarius Bowman.

DEFENSE:

LB Deron Mayo having a good season and will be manning the MLB position the rest of the season and maybe the playoffs also. MLB Juwan Simpson won't playing the rest of the regular season due to injury. Another bad news is DE Charleston Hughes will be gone for the rest of the season due to lower body injury. It means DE Frank Beltre and DE Brandon Boudreaux will be taking his place chasing the quarterbacks. DB Fred Bennett will also miss the game and maybe done for the season too. Rookie Canadian DB Tevaughn Campbell will be starting his 2nd game as the cornerback.

SPECIAL TEAM:

Returner Skye Dawson will start his 2nd game as a returner for the Stampeders replacing the injured Tim Brown. Against Hamilton, Dawson was just okay especially in the first half of the game but his last return on a missed field goal he returned the ball on a decent field position that gave K Rene Paredes a winning field goal.

Good start by the Stamps. Harrison's 59-yard kickoff return, then Bo Levi Mitchell 15-yard pass to Eric Rogers for a TD. Jerome Messam finished it up with the 2-point convert.

Jamar Wall dropped the sure INT close to Sask end zone. Wiggan on a QB sack after. Former Stamps kicker Tyler Crapigna kicked a field goal and it is good.

Awesome 1st half for all facets. Both kickoff and punt returns created good field possessions. Great job by Tory Harrison on the first 2 kickoff returns. Skye Dawson good punt return. Defense played well not giving Brent Smith and Riders offense a lot of plays. Good pressure defense. Seven possessions for the Stamps offense.

Poss#1: Touchdown - Mitchell 15-yards pass to Eric Rogers for a TD. Jerome Messam on a 2-point convert.
Poss#2: Touchdown - Mitchell to Eric Rogers for a TD. 2-point convert successful Mitchell to McDaniel.
Poss#3: FG by Rene Paredes
Poss#4: No point
Poss#5: Mitchell to Joe West for a TD. Paredes kicked a convert
Poss#6: FG Rene Paredes
Poss#7: 2 and out.

This new guy Keith Price is freaking slippery. Saskatchewan lost a chance to score at least 3 points on an unsuccessful 3rd down gamble from their red zone.

Green has to be the worst player in the league. Been costing the Riders all day.

It has been quite some time since I have seen a defence lacking so many fundamental principles of football. Just an ugly display from the Riders D

Pretty good day for the Stamps...win a game they should and hopefully avoided any serious injuries.

Feel for ya a bit MASH...that is one flawed and checked out football team. Terrible effort at times and horrible execution the rest.

So hoping Montreal can find a way to beat Edmonton tomorrow and make next week a meaningful exercise.

I know the Riders didn't provide much resistance, but it's been a tough year for Mark Kilam and his special teams unit so it was great to see a solid effort from the special team guys today. Harrison set the tone early from the opening kick-off and Skye Dawson was great on punt returns.

Other than John Chick is there a player on that Sask defence who would start(or even see regular reps) on the Stamps. I don't think so. Only 1 or 2 other guys who could start on most other teams.

The offence is really only QB stability away from being good.

Messam runs hard, always been a fan of his. Crapigna looked good. That trade could work out nicely for both teams.

The Riders covered my spread, didn't lose by 40!

The guy in the Scorch costume definitely had the best one at McMahon today. The Monty Python guys were pretty great too

Offense:
They were awesome today. If it wasn't for some dropped balls, BLM would hit close to 400 yards or even 400. Bo was clicking and Jerome Messam lowered the BOOM a few times on Brackenridge. That would shut that guy's mouth. Riders secondary was no match to Stamps offense. Joe West had a breakout game today and Eric Rogers was in his normal awesomeness today. Harrison didn't get used much on offense but whenever he's on the field, he's very good. Offensive Line in general were great today. There was not much any pressure on Mitchell all game because the OLine blocking.

Defense:
I thought overall they played well. They still to improve on defending a scramble QB. There are times that they would have stop Smith/or Price but ended up giving the QB open receiver instead. Secondary played much better today and I thought both McDonald and Wall played well. Tevaughn Campbell didn't play like a rookie out there. Front Seven was also good especially LB Glenn Love.

Special Team:
Finally they played well and I didn't even think they had a penalty today. Oh yeah there was one illegal block but that's all. Returner Tory Harrison and Skye Dawson gave the Stamps offense decent possession pretty much all day. I think we will Dawson bring one home soon. Hats off to special team today.

Now, we just need to see Nik Lewis and the Montreal Alouettes beat the Eskimos tomorrow then hoping the Stamps will take care of their own next week vs BC. Montreal give the Stamps a favour tomorrow and in return they'll beat BC Lions.

Couple good games in a row. Hopefully the Stamps are peaking at the right time.
