It was Red Sox pitcher David Price getting carpal tunnel from playing video games. That story quite possibly prompted interest about this NHL first-rounder's reported addiction.

Except for the ones that it probably does affect. Just because they've made it to the NHL doesn't mean they couldn't have been better if they weren't out getting trashed every night. That doesn't mean for everyone, just some.
And, again, I'm sure that there are players just on that cusp who had their careers ruined by alcohol and drug addiction. Actually wouldn't have to look further than the Calgary Flames to see a player who likely isn't playing in the NHL if he didn't get help.

Better be crushing Battle Royale with constant 1st places to justify giving up on the NHL.

"Very very prominent NHL team" is an odd phrase. Does he mean like the Leafs or Penguins?

Wasn't it David Price who had carpal tunnel and while he admitted he plays Fortnite a whole bunch, he argued it wasn't due to that. But that he was going to play less.
Fortnite is big right now. The Astros outfielders do the fortnite celebration after every win.

I used to do 6 hour sessions of solitaire with vegas scoring and 3 card draw on Windows98. Felt like crap after usually because i was down like $6000.

Friedman said "very prominent NHL team" so I think that rules him out.

The funny thing is there was an article posted 2 posts above your original post about it!
All that waiting for nothing.

I know this is /s, but 7-8 years ago, my buddy legitimately nearly lost his job, friends and girlfriend at the time (now wife) because of a crippling addiction to WoW.

If we are talking about an alcohol addition, people are all serious about it. But if it's a video game addiction, some people just joke about it. Addictions are addictions. It shouldn't be taken lightly just because it doesn't make sense to you how anyone can get addicted to it in the first place. I mean, I'll be honest. I'm only a fair weather drinker, so to me, I don't get how someone can get addicted to alcohol. But I do get the seriousness of it.
I know people during my university days where video games wrecked or nearly wrecked their academic careers. It can get pretty serious if someone gets addicted to it and can't stop.

Video game addition is real, but the bolded is false. Stopping some addictions can literally kill you. They're not all the same.

I'm old - at least likely by your standards (45yo). I can still be surprised by the morning light when fully immersed in a good RPG. I was worse when younger.

If you listen to Marek on podcasts, this is just the sort of thing he says. I wouldn't put too much stock in it. Could mean just about anything.

Back in the day, I used to be up until all hours of the night playing chess and backgammon on pogo (lamest addiction ever?). I didn't realize how bad it was getting until my boss pulled me into his office one day and asked me if I was having personal problems, based on my constantly bloodshot eyes and sluggishness in the morning. People at work basically thought I had a drug problem. It was a surprisingly difficult addiction to break.
