Some surprises to me?

Good to see Backlund (50.6%) and Monahan (47.4%) hold their own in the faceoff dot. In the regular season the Ducks were the #1 team in the league for faceoffs.

Flames with only 2 even strength goals. Yikes.

Bennett and Brodie had really good showings compared to their regular season.

Ferland leading the team in shots.

Shocked me that Stajan and Bouma had zero blocked shots. Bouma is well known for his shot blocking.

Gaudreau really underwhelmed.

Still cannot believe that the Flames were swept, especially when looking at some of these team comparison stats.

Goaltending is important.

Didn't touch the advanced stats, if one of our advanced stats gurus wants to add to this post, please go for it!

I'd love to see what the scoring chances were compared to Anaheim at 5 on 5

Only scored 2 goals and they scored a lot more than us 5 on 5 obviously, but I wouldn't be surprised if we out chanced them 5 on 5.

Flames deserved a better fate than a 4 game sweep. Absolutely criminal how that series went.

Hamilton was bad game one, iffy game two but settled down back at home. Giordano played perhaps his worst game in years last night so it was a tough series for this pair.

Sam Bennett was a beast. Bulldog in the offensive zone but plenty of smarts in his own end. Plenty of room to grow in both areas but Sam gave everyone a reminder just how good he is. Needs to carry that through to next season.

I think we had something like a 2% shooting % 5v5.

5 on 5:

Corsi: 51.17%
Fenwick: 51.21%
Scoring Chances: 53.85%
High Danger Scoring Chances: 52.17%
PDO: 0.923 (!!!)

All Situations

Corsi: 51.217%
Fenwick: 51.85%
Scoring Chances: 54.47%
High Danger Scoring Chances: 55.0%
PDO: 0.950 (!!!!)

The 5 on 5 PDO is the worst in the playoffs. The All Situations PDO is second worst.

Advanced stats are cruel.

Bennett was my favourite Flame since 2014. I am getting a Flames jersey as a gift and last month decided on Tkachuk as he plays exactly the way I've always envisioned Benett would.

But after the playoffs, I kind of wish that I chose Bennett. Oh well, both will be huge for the Flames for years to come.

In the Regular Season the Avs had a league worst 5 on 5 PDO of 0.970. That's how unsustainable the Flames PDO was. Couldn't make a save, couldn't catch a break.

Edit: The Flames playoff 5 on 5 PDO of .923 is 6, six!, Standard Deviations from the mean of the 2016/17 regular season. I knew things were bad but not that bad...

It's in the playoffs were Bennett has played his best hockey so far in his career. That's gotta be a good sign.

I was expecting more from Tkachuk. While you can't put too much blame on a rookie, I was hoping for a Ferkland-type playoff debut from him. He was fairly invisible the entire series.

Cannot ####ing believe we got swept. So cruel.

Reinforces for me that the Flames need to stay the course and get a reliable starter with a history of elevating his play in the playoffs.

Thank you for putting this together. Flames PP was lethal which I would have thought going in was awfully important.

Stats don't really tell the whole story. When the game was on the line, the Ducks were better.

And Elliott.

Tkachuk has been off his game since the LA tilt. The coaching staff/NHL really tamed him down or he's banged up pretty good. He shied away from contact IMO last night and really didn't have much jump like he normally does.

Series came down to Goaltending.

Could have used a lot more out of JG.

I think the silver lining of these playoffs is that it could be remembered as Bennett's coming out party. Imagine what next year could be if Bennett, Tkachuk and Lazar all breakout next year. That could be a line made for the playoffs.

Sean Monahan and Lazar and Jankowki are only 21. Johnny is only 22. Hamilton is only 23. Bennett is 20 and Tkachuk is 19. Andersson and Kylington are only 19.

How can you not be excited for the future!

It was popular belief Bennett would show up in the playoffs, and no one was disappointed there.

Better not be the coaches reigning him in. He's an effective agitator that can score. He needs to play with that grit.

No doubt that the horrid goaltending was the Flames number one downfall and Johnny was pretty ineffective as well but also the lack of scoring from our back-end (other than Brodies 4 assists) also hurt.

Hamilton finished 9th among NHL defensemen and had 50 points in the regular season. One assist in the series.

Giordano finished tied for 24th among dmen and had 39 points in the regular season. One assist in the playoffs.

Just makes me shake my head when you hear the oilers have also only scored 2 goals 5v5 and their star only has 2 points (none 5v5) in the 4 games they have played yet the series is split. Goaltending is the difference.
