Sometimes I like to make snap decisions based on limited information and evidence. This is one of those times.

The Leafs are clearly guilty of cap circumvention and need to be punished.

Lupul apologizes, and says he will not be seeking a second opinion:

At this point they should force him to seek a second opinion just so I can find out if he was lying or not. While not a surprising outcome, I'm even more suspicious now than I was before.

Disgusting franchise.
I wonder what sick, perverted, disturbing stuff they are holding against Lupul to make him say this?

It's kind of funny reading some of the earlier comments on here. You would think the Leafs management had been convicted of some heinous crime.

People will take any little thing they can to bash the Leafs.

When you see a complete 180 like that it certainly does come to mind that maybe Simmons was right and the Leafs have something on him. Why would he not get a 2nd opinion unless he was threatened that it would end up bad for him?

I know a few people that are close to the situation and from what I have been told Lou Lamoriello has Lupul's mother chained up in his basement. He will only release her unharmed after this season. It really sucks for Lupul and I hope the league comes down hard on the Leafs.

I don't know..call me old-fashioned but I just think taking a guy's mother and locking her up in your dungeon is a little too much.

From what I have been told when/if the Leafs release his mother the NHL will conduct a physical. If the mother shows any extensive damage the Leafs could be looking at a hefty fine.

The Leafs don't need to have anything on him. His situation is what limits any issue here.

If he were to fight this, and get a second opinion, and actually be deemed to be healthy, what happens? He ends up being sent to the AHL to ride the bus.

Right now, he gets paid $5.25M to go fishing. If he were re-instated, he would have to report to the Marlies in order to continue collecting his paycheck.

I am sure that the moment someone explained that to him, he quickly realized that his health was in fact not that great.

So you are assuming he no longer wants to play hockey? Some players may be willing to sit and home and collect but he certainly sounded like a guy that wants to resume his career and I'm sure he's smart enough that he didn't need the Leafs to remind him that they could send him to the AHL. For a player to call out the team in public for cheating and a few days later walk back into his hole with his tail between his legs not even willing to seek a 2nd opinion is kind of wishy washy especially when a Toronto media person called that exact scenario happening the day before.

Oh yes, you're such a victim dude.

If it helps you feel better about your martyrdom however, Lupul's comments do play right into Simmons' conspiracy theory about how Toronto is extorting him.

There is no way he hasn't seen his own doctors to get a second opinion. My suspicion is that is what he did they said no you can't play so he retracts his statement. This guy has millions on the line. He likely been seeing multiple specialists per month.

In is tweet he isn't getting the NHLPA doctor to give him a second opinion. I assume he is saving himself the embarrassment from publicly losing. This is much more likely then pictures being released or a Trump ##### tape.

If the Leads go caught extorting him the penalties would be ridiculous. If they get caught circumventing the cap it's likely a big fine that they just pay

I do wish the process for these ltir players who could be cap circumvention had an independent process

Cases like this, hossas injury, Pronger etc

I bet when Luongo 'retires' because of the cap issues it will cause he will be on ltir

Is being old a.f. considered an injury? I'm sure I could make a case for that.

Yep. It's almost CFL-like how the NHL kind of looks the other way with cases like this. The Hossa thing is a complete joke and it just undermines the league as a 2nd tier sport.

I don't think we've heard the end of this.

I suspect we will hear all sorts of leaks about lupul and his character, injuries, off ice actions, commitment to rehab, etc over the upcoming weeks and months.

John Shannon‏
@JSportsnet

Hearing, even though Joffrey Lupul is not seeking a 2nd opinion, the NHL Is going to have him medically evaluated by an independent doctor.
