Sooke being blocked is a shocker.

Yes, the Malahat and hwy 14 were shut down. The only way to get around right now is the Mill Bay ferry between Brentwood Bay and Mill Bay with the ferry doing sailings through out the night. It is a very small ferry that can only take 19 vehicles and 150 passengers. There have been multiple sailing waits at both terminals all night long. The photo below is from the Village of Brentwood Bay which is approximately two km from the ferry terminal.

It's a Pineapple Express:

A big one hit in 2006:

They mention 150+mm of rain, I think I saw yesterday somewhere had 200mm, so this event is bigger. I'm not sure it can be directly attributed to climate change, since these things hit the west coast all the time. The location and size of this one make it so devastating for BC.

We are in Cedar. Cedar road is also closed at the moment as the road washed out mid Sunday.

A friend of mine lives in Cedar, she wasn't sure if she was going to be able to get to work today (she's a nurse at NRGH). My parents live in Lake Cowichan and they got some flooding... Their house turned into a waterfront lot and there were people kayaking down the street. I should ask them to take some pictures of the lake/river.

Father in law lives on the water in Sooke. Seems to be alright at this time. He stocked up prior to the storm so he could hunker down if needed. No loss of power yet.

Curious to see how this is going to affect an already stressed supply chain.

Seems like its time for some serious infrastructure discussions if BC is going to alternate between being on fire and flooding.

Also, maybe some discussions about the cost of climate change.

The Brentwood ferry was backed up to Keating Crossroad last night.
Kudos to BCferries running nonstop. They should send over another boat to help things along during this time.
What I love about all this is you get to see communities flex their humanitarian side.
Looks like Pacific Marine is up and running again so at least folks have some way around the Malahat now aside from the ferry.

Just drove from Fernie to Calgary. Roads are totally fine, save the detour on Dicken road, which barely takes any time off at all. Little to no traffic as well, roads are dry (windy around Okotoks) and maybe a little snow on "the pass" by Maycroft. Smooth sailing.

The BC Ministry of Transportation already has added language to their road design guidelines about "climate change adaptation". Essentially, major roadways see much more emphasis to design around handling harsher weather - a 1 in 200 year event instead of 1 in 100 year event, as an over simplification. That doesn't guarantee that there won't be disruptions during these storms, but it should reduce the likelihood of losing access for weeks on major routes.
