BC is fortunate TMX had all that equipment in the hills around the highway. Sounds like a lot of the clearing and rebuilding was done by contractors from the pipeline.

That's crazy they got it up and running in that amount of time.

Will probably be under construction most of next year to get all of the damage repaired.

Sister in law stupidly came down from Merritt on Saturday. She took the Coquihalla and it was 9 hours down and 7 back up. No road blocks or checks anywhere.

I think your sister in law has the roads she took wrong. That wasn't possible for any vehicle on Saturday, let alone someone randomly going to visit someone. She would have had to take 97C from Merritt over to 5A and then Highway 3, which would be why it took so long and why there would be no checkpoints.

No, the No. 5 was open to commercial traffic. It was slow because it was single lane and trucks had no room to pull over to chain up so they did it in the middle of the road. Also lots of backroads to get around certain sections.

Around 7 mins is the washed out bridges, 9 mins is the fire damage from this summer. Overall doesn't seem too bad, few sections of 2 lane but mostly 4 lane everywhere else.

It's pretty remarkable how fast they were able to get it open, but it still needs a lot of work.

I drove up to Kamloops last week and it's certainly rough in some areas. Single lane in at least 2 portions for several KMs, large unmarked pot holes that scare the bejeezus out of you when you hit them at highway speed, can't see dividing lines.

Not a criticism at all because those things are expected, but definitely still not the Coquihalla that people are used to.

All things considered, I thought they did a fantastic job getting it back together for light vehicle use. I doubt it took longer than an extra 15-30 mins when I went through the day after re-opening. Those potholes are definitely keeping people honest though..aye curumba! Some of them are down right damaging, especially if you're doing up and over 110 kmh.
