I was watching in the third period when the Bruins got the late pp and Kevin Quinn and his color guy were gushing on about how the Oilers were killing that penalty.
All I saw was a Bruins team that couldn't complete a four foot pass, had bucks bouncing over their sticks and made incredibly bone headed passes.
The Oilers penalty killers were just on the ice to witness a self destruction by the Bruins who are surprisingly terrible.
I mean to give credit to the Oilers they're in a position to get through the first month with more then 1 or 2 wins, so thats good on them.
But a team that was going into last night 22nd in goals for 22nd in goals against, something like 26th on the penalty kill, have a goalie that had a below .900 svpct, had a negative goals against and were .500 just shows how smoke and mirrors that team. is. They're equivalent to the Flames when they had Roman Turek, tthey're getting wins early but looking like hot garbage doing it.
They're still a bottom 3rd in the NHL team, their depth will catch up to them and when the Conna inevitably gets hurt because he's spending a ton of time on the ice because there aren't many actual professional quality hockey players. Oiler fans will cry and whine about NHL and reffing conspiracies and about how every team in the NHL has more luck with them.
The Oilers deserve nothing more then a bottom place finish and a fate worth then death with GG coaching. Their fans deserve a urine smelling shake instead of a urine soaked arena.
Don't let this 3-2 start fool you, they're bone dog dead damn awful.

McJesus looked a little frustrated I think in the 3rd period whe he didn’t score and skating back to the bench he slashed a Boston player, of course he didn’t get a penalty when he almost started WWIII on the ice.
This “winning streak” will end soon enough as it’s more about other teams playing bad than the Oiler’s playing well. With the losing ways continuing, when does McDavid demand a trade, I say next season is his last in Coilerville. If he doesn’t, he only cares about money and personal statistics rather than winning as nothing will change in Edmonton.

Exactly this. It instills a bit of hope, and even if they are to crash and burn they can point at the fact that the team strung a few wins together at the beginning of the season to convince ownership that they are just about to turn yet another corner, and therefore keep the same group together for another shot next year. Just like they used the win against the Flames in the opening game last year to convince themselves that all the losing that came after was just an anomaly.
Right now they are without doubt running their core group of players into the ground. McDavid is on the ice for hilarious amount of minutes each game, Nurse and Klefbom were both in the 28 minute range against Boston. That's what you do in the playoffs if needed, not at the very beginning of the season. Then of course, hanging on for the first month of the season is basically playoffs for the Oilers.

Boston looked a lot like the Gulutzan-era Flames last night. Slow, no creativity, couldn't complete a pass to save their lives, and their PP was putrid.
The McDavid/Talbot show will win the Oilers a few games, for sure. Especially against non-playoff teams like the Rangers, tired teams on the 2nd half of a back-to-back (Bruins), and teams that just curl up and die after getting the lead (Jets).
But it ain't gonna get them to the dance. Depth is what gets you to the playoffs, and the Oilers clearly don't have it.

They have the most games against tired teams in the entire league. Thats a significant number of points.

I recall someone here arguing that the numbers show teams on the end of a back to back are no worse off. Are there stats that support that?

There's a reason they changed the playoff format years back to every second night. Players typically don't have the same legs deep into the 2nd game. It's an advantage regardless of what the stats may show because the stats don't take into consideration quality of opponent on 1st night vs 2nd night, etc.
My best guess is that the league gave the Oilers a solid on the schedule for them opening the season in Germany much like a few seasons ago when the league did them a solid for the opening year of their new arena.

Collectively in 2016-17, however, NHL teams averaged 0.04 less points per game when playing for the second straight night than they did when playing on one or more days rest.

My guess is often it doesn't matter if games are back-to-back, but that CGY-BOS match was fast and physical and no doubt took its toll on the Bruins.
To their credit, the Oilers have also been pretty physical this year so that would have compounded Boston's woes.

Watching Draisaitl last night had me wondering how poor of a start he was actually off to, and it’s bad, real bad. Hope this isn’t too ‘statsy’, but matches the eye test of how bad he is right now.
His CF% is a whopping 39.37%, and HDCF% is a unbelievably bad 30.77%..
He’s so bad he’s even dragging down Milan Lucic, who with Draisaitl has a CF% 35.29%, and without Draisaitl he’s 65.71%...
Draisaitl is so no good that he makes Lucic a much worse player when on the ice with him.

I think it's probably that being without Draisaitl means being with McDavid, and McDavid could make a trash can post a 50+% corsi.

Partially, but Lucic has only played 8:25 5v5 with McDoofus. Draisaitl makes every player worse, with the exception is Kris Russel.
Small sample size, but someone making $8.5M should make others better..
