Is Montreal overwhelmingly French speaking?
When I go there everyone just speaks perfect English to me, probably because I speak English to them first.

Just a funny joke based on the post you had responded to.

Well, pretty much everyone speaks French, and the vast majority in Montreal speak very good English as well.

^ Related: I was in Montreal a few years back when what I assume was a crazy person started ranting in front of me about the animal he had in his cage. When I said (in French) I did not speak much of it he carried on his rant in English.

I really didn't how to feel at that point about myself. I can barely speak English and here he was fluent in both.

I think we should try and go after Schmaltz out of ARZ. 25yo RHS RW/C who could be a solid 2nd line RWer.

Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Mangiapane-Monahan-Schmaltz
Dube-Backlund-Coleman
Lucic-Richardson-Lewis

He is basically Coleman, if we are going to upgrade our top 6 I want a more offensive player.

If Buffalo is still shedding players, maybe Tage Thompson. Big, 25, RHS, makes $1.4 this year and next, has 14 goals, 28 points. 25 is still young but maybe too old for their rebuild. I suppose one issue is that he’s all that’s left from the ROR trade.

From Chicago obviously Debrincat is the dream but would they move Dach to avoid his RFA? He’s underperformed as a 3OA but maybe a change of scenery would help him.

Sneaky off the radar acquisitions like Thompson are exactly what you hope to see from Treliving, being a guy that tries to build a reputation of being smarter than every one in the room.

The thing about struggling teams is there are always those players no one talks about that quietly put up strong numbers. And as a team close to the cap you always want to be poaching those kinds of players that are still playing on cheap contracts that haven't garnered a reputation or name value around the league yet.

I must be slow - what exactly is CGY offering BUF for their 24 year old, 6'6" right shooting C/RW making $1.4 mil?

BUF is not anywhere near the cap. Thompson falls right into the age/price range of their main group. They already have 3 1st round picks.

If I were BUF, I would tell everyone - sure, Thompson is available. But you have to take Skinner at full price too.

(to that end, not sure what CGY is offering to get other teams "young guns". Any team near the cap wants to keep those guys who are on ELCs.)

Well imo we should add a couple forwards. If Schmaltz is one of those guys I wouldn’t have a problem with it as he would likely come fairly cheap.

For a Sutter team, with a GM that's allergic to 'sexy' moves?

Maybe Schmaltz and Pavelski.

I dunno man, Pavelski would be a move so sexy it'd rate itself X-rated for explicit content

I'm just trying to pretend it's not sexy so that he gets the idea to go and do it.

Yeah, letting Sutter have Pavelski to work with in the playoffs would be unreal.

Pavelski would be awesome, but it would be hard to stomach the price, considering his age and the fact that he would be a pure rental.

If the Flames magically had cap space, I would really want them to sign Pavelski as a UFA.

Well, Buffalo seems to love prospects, and they’re going to be losing half their D. They may feel Thomson is expendable due to Cozens, Krebs, Peterka and Quinn who are their future at top 6 C and RW (along with their hopes of Wright).

Pavelski has a 3 team No Trade list and who knows if Dallas even moves him.

He'd be an amazing pickup, but I'm not sure we could get him to waive to come here.
