Backlund has done well for this team over the years. But at this stage of his career he's realistically a third line centre. As is Monahan.

We are all guilty of rememberberries with our players. But if there's any league where "what have you done for me lately" matters, it's the NHL.

If we had 2016 Monahan and 2016 Backlund we'd be the best team in hockey. Full stop.

We don't. We have one line and hopes of two more that just can't quite get rolling consistently.

There's Loyalty to your players and then there's whatever the Flames are doing.

I dont want to see Monahan or Backs leave, but seriously, the team needs them to be the best versions of themselves. And they aren't.

Look at Mangiapane, red hot for a third of the season and splat. Now the hounds are circling him too.

Flames need better forwards if only to compliment or better try and get key players rolling.

Maybe if we want to get Backlund rolling they put him back together with Chucky.

Maybe move Monny back to center Gaudreau and Lindholm. I dont know if those ideas are the answers but something needs to be done to give this team some impactful depth.

Because like others have said, the Richies, Pitlicks, Lewis's and Richardsons of this world aren't doing that. And sewering kids like Dube.

Lucic being the brightest spot out of the depth fws. I love but that can't be all there is to it.

At this time I don’t think the Flames should make any moves at the TDL.

I mean if there is a steal of a deal out there you do it but don’t force anything.

Do we need to upgrade our D? We could use a stud top pairing defenseman that is young and cost controlled. Every team wants that. Unlikely to happen.

Chychrun would be a nice add but the price is probably massive.

I will want to kill Tre if he trades for another 3rd pairing dman. Stone is insurance already, Connor Mackey is in the AHL but belongs in the NHL. Add Valimaki, and Kinvall if you get desperate. That is ten Dmen.
We have more than enough depth.

For forwards we need a top six player. That said Monahan is coming around as of late.

I would call up Pelltier and Phillips to play with Monahan.

Pitlick, Richardson, Ritchie, and Lewis can pound sand. I like Lewis for his defensive game. The rest are useless to me.

That line would give the team a third scoring line. Or at least potential for it.

It would give the prospects a chance to play with talent. They are talented as well on their own. I think it would be a good line.

It would also help our salary cap to if they play well.

Guys deserve a chance to play.

There are trades out there that could make the team better. I just don’t want more grinders for forwards or 3rd pairing dmen.

If Tre is making a trade make a statement. No more depth signings.

For me the Flames need to bring 1 or 2 forwards that can score goals. Our drafts will be not high this year so they should trade it for the forwards.
Shooting more than 40 but score 1 or 2 is not good. Bring Toffoli type player that can score.
Then if we fail this year in playoffs, trade all assets for 2023 drafts.

I have never heard of this site. Likely a step below Eklund's site but I thought it was interesting nonetheless:
https://www.thepuckers.com/?no=81112

Dube and Pelletier for Lehkonen and Toffoli or Anderson.

Without looking up the details this doesn't seem to work for the Flames salary cap but there is some merits on the return for Calgary. Feels like Lehkonen would do well on Sutter's team and Toffoli or Anderson is the RW we are looking for.

Salary cap issue aside. The writer just looked at Dube's last name and assumed he is from Quebec.

"Quebec born" Dillon Dube?

Wasn't he born in Golden, while growing up in Cochrane?

The old “French sounding” scam, like how the Flames got rid of Rene Bourque.

Well, he just put into print what he heard off of Breakfast Television in MTL.

Anyways, if the cap worked with salary retention I'd do that trade.

Either Anderson or Toffoli.

Lehkonen I'd assume would not be a long term fit here.

Or Matthew Lombardi. He was a Quebec Anglophone, couldn't speak a word of French. I recall one time a reporter in Montreal tried to ask him questions and he was perplexed.

Tonight for the Kraken, Jarnkrok played 20:27-the most of any forward on his team (the next highest played 18:04), and had a team-high 3 hits, 2:13 SH TOI (3rd in PP TOI with 4:51) and 4 shots. He added a goal, and was plus-1 against the Panthers.

......just sayin'.

T.J. Miller signed for Monahan, 2022 1st round pick, and Pelletier. Overpayment but I like it. Gotta give to get.

That’s not an overpayment. With monahans salary included in the trade, it diminishes the value. Nobody wants to pay $6 million for a bottom 6 player . Flames would have to retain salary or take a garbage contract back .

Correct. Miller's value is likely close to that package minus Monny. Plus the original poster required a signed Miller? I assume the usual "signed to a team friendly deal"....

If Miller gets traded, it will be for a first and the best prospect added to the deal. How good that prospect needs to be depends entirely on the demand for Miller. Vancouver would not need to take a back a bad continuing contract on that deal.

this. Feels like a logical fit for the middle six.

Miller isn't getting traded to the Flames.
I think he'll go to NYR
