Buying a dishwasher

Bosch is a great brand .... Don't get Samsung i repair dishwashers and Samsung's seem to be the worst

We love how quiet our Bosch is, but the soap dispenser broke just after the warranty ended. Now we have to manually insert the detergent blocks 22 minutes after the cycle starts, like a freaking cave man.

We have a Kenmore Elite, which is made by Bosch. Fantastic machine.

I have only bought Kenmore Elite appliances including our last two dishwashers and they have performed perfectly.

I only buy appliances from Sears because I have never had any problems and often get really good sale prices.

we have a jenn-air - i would never recommend this dishwasher

it's not really a dish washer becuz if you put in a dirty dish you get out a dirty dish. everything going in has to be pretty much clean and all this thing does is sanitize it.

i will never buy another jenn-air dishwasher - ever

Miele at both our places. Love them. Had bosch before and it was good too. Prefer the miele.

Another vote for Miele here.

I bought mine via Kijiji 4.5 years ago, and it was 3 years old at the time, but not used very much in a 2 person Mt Royal home. My place is an acreage with fairly hard and mineral laden well water. The built in water softener is a god-send, and the dishes come out perfect every single time with no scraping or pre-rinse.

I had a Blomberg before this Miele, which the well water destroyed in about 3 years; the Miele is still as good as new. With 2 adults and 4 kids, we average 1.5 full loads every single day.

Have a Bosch for something like 12 years and it's still going strong, great dishwasher. Want a Miele for my next one.

Have to agree. We really like our jenn-aire stove and fridge. The dishwasher is just ok. Often if you don't pre-rinse it will end up baking on food making you hand wash. Oh and have you ever had the drying cycle work? dishes are always soaking even with Jet Dry.

The biggest PO is the small plastic clips it uses. They break easily and are expensive to locate replacements and when I do it seems the part match is slightly different.

It still works so we will ride it until it dies but it is not quiet and the clips are broken which are key to standing up the plates. Just a PIA, but was free when we moved in so whatever.

Another one here for Bosch, bought ours 2 yrs ago from Trail. So quiet, we don't even know it's running until we see the cat staring at the red light, lol. If you go Bosch, make sure you get a German made model. I've had a few reps tell me that the American versions of the same models are just not as good.

Another vote for Trail Appliance, and for the Kitchenaid we bought there. Honestly most of the brands are probably pretty good so look at one that is quiet, and matches your needs.

I repair alot of brands but usually the Bosch repairs are older models that have been used for years i haven't had to fix a bosh newer then 4 years yet. Honestly most of the brand's are quite good except Samsung just stay away. Also i would suggest getting the extended warranty with any appliance because they like to go right after the warranty expires

I bought a townhome that came with Viking appliances. As I had used them in restaurants, I was pretty excited to have them in my home. They didn't work that well, and the dishwasher conked out. I bought a Miele dishwasher to replace it, and it was awesome. In the house I'm having built for me I'm having a Miele G6105SCU installed. The cutlery tray on the top and the adjustable basket are awesome features. With discount, I paid $1,750. It's schedule for delivery a week from today, but I don't think my contractor will be ready for it, so it'll be pushed.

My teenagers empty the dishwasher when told, but have never made the connection that dishes can also go into the dishwasher.

I've heard mixed things about that 3rd tray on the top. It's a PITA to individually slot in each piece of cutlery I'm told. Far easier to take a fist full of forks and drop it into the basket.

Having just switched to a Bosch with one of those trays, I disagree, personally. It's not really a hassle at all. Very useful feature.

Got my first around 1995...gave it to my daughter when we did a reno in 2007...it is still running...never had a repair.

My second Miele is in my Priddis home...got it in 2007...still running perfectly.

Have a Miele in my Calgary home as well...6 years old...not one problem.

The third tray is a game changer. It creates so much room on the bottom rack, allowing more dishes, and bigger dishes/pans, to be washed. It's really not difficult to put cutlery into the third tray. It's the same as putting plates into the bottom tray. There are notches, and you put them in there. It's easier to open the dishwasher and throw everything inside without sorting it at all, but that's not going to get your dishes clean.

Another benefit of the top rack is that it cleans the whole surface of the utensil. If you are just jamming 10 forks into one slot, some of them will come out with food on them. With the third tray you can remove them from the dishwasher without touching the end that goes in your mouth. Most people load utensils with the business side up. When they empty the dishwasher they grab this part. That can make them dirty again.

I used the third tray at my townhome for 2 years. Not one time did I think it was a pain.
