Storage until they are certified to fly again. Air Canada also has a bunch of theirs at the same airport.

Ya, I thought everyone knew to be careful for those primary vertically-propagating lee wave breaks in the lower stratosphere. Nasty stuff.

Does that +/- 500 ft mean the plane was dropping up and down that much in seconds? Yikes....

I guess that's what we were taught as "Marked Mountain Waves"

I mean, metal shavings and the like I can understand as something that would happen over the course of operation as the result of a defect. But tools?!

It’s very common it’s piping assembly for O+G for their to be all kinds of crap left behind. Wrenches, clamps, bolts, nuts, welding rods, rags. So it’s not surprising that this occurs in airplane manufacturing.

Didn't realize there were still phantoms in service, but that paint scheme is awesome.

Presumably they still need aircraft which makes you wonder:
1. what they will replace these 11 aircraft with
2. what their long term plans are for the rest of their Max fleet

An A321neo order is increasingly rumoured and likely, for the life of me I can't find a link to AC's Q4 report but they've already received an initial comp payment from Boeing with more coming, and they're waiting till Q3; if MAX isn't flying by then they'll start making fleet plans.

Hmmm my credit requests for some WJ flights were processed today. I had requested these back to my Visa, but they've placed them back in my travel bank. Is this a standard WJ thing right now to preserve cash flow? I'm hoping to call them at a later date to rectify.
They also forgot to credit me for my companion passes...

From their website:
For flights booked before March 3, 2020 for travel in March or April 2020:
$0 one-time fee waiver for changes or cancellations
Change or cancellation must be requested at least 2 hours prior to departure
Value of cancelled flights will be returned as a credit to your Travel Bank

That's interesting. They seem to have added this to the above section of their policies since: "We are not processing refunds to original form of payment at this time."
Last week the option to pay the $120 change fee (per ticket) was still being offered to get a full refund back to your original payment card. For me that would have meant paying $480 (4 tickets) to get my $3K back - a trade I would have made.
I get this as a self-preservation measure for them, but hopefully they will also consider full refunds when things calm down.... Guests need cash too.

It is an awful move by WestJet to not provide refunds and instead provide a credit. But until they start receiving a significant amount of bad press about this I doubt they will do anything. Bad press is usually the driving factor for them to do the right thing.
