The Democrat "control" of the senate is an illusion and always was. 2 Republicans ran under the Democrat banner and won their seats. Sadly, the Dems will be blamed for "wasting an opportunity" to bring huge progressive change, but the reality is they never really had it.

I get Manchin's angle........he's from a coal rich state so cutting stuff like that back is political suicide. I don't like his stance at all, but at least you know where he's coming from.
Sinema is altogether different. I don't think even she knows what she wants. I have no idea what she's doing.

Going by the current new homes being built boom, I think things are looking pretty strong here still. There's also a new demand for LNG and oil so I believe we'll see more opportunities and jobs coming back. People still want to come here and live here believe it or not.

Based on her actions so far I think it's safe to say that she doesn't have any agenda other than making herself wealthy and powerful.

Sinema's pretty much done. She's going to get primaried and in the polls available she is trailing all challenges by at least 59 points. She's done.

Sounds like someone who knows she's toast and wants to grift as much as she can on the way out.

This is where Lanny misrepresents my views. I'm not advocating for burning the whole system to the ground (not yet anyways), but if radical changes aren't made sooner than later, that's exactly what we're going to see.

The US is over, stick a fork in them their done, we need as Canadians to work out how to minimise any damage their break up does to us, I suspect we end up with 2 or 3 new countries to the south of us within the next 10 or 15 years

Wasn't the secondary premise of Biden being the nominee was that he could get things done in the Senate?
Not saying Bernie would be any better off here. Just calling that out for the obvious horse#### it was at the time.

Unfortunately, my lasting memory of Powell was watching him present the blatant lies about WMDs in Iraq to the UN in order to kick off a war that had nothing to do with 911.
He was totally sewered by the Bush administration, but that is certainly my clearest memory of him. Lie down with dogs and all that, I guess...

I find this one tough. He was certainly a victim of groupthink and getting caught up in the post 9/11 insanity, but he's got the blood of a few hundred thousand Iraqis on his hands regardless.
That's a pretty big "oopsies".

The best thing to happen to Powell's legacy was Trump. Same for Bush and basically every other member of his administration

Other than the part where he lied to the world and dragged the region into another unnecessary war so his boss could finish the job his daddy started. But other than that, ya, more people like him.

I think Powell was set up as the fall guy or at least used as a pawn. He was given intel pointing to Iraq having WMDs that was proven false and additional intel from a source that was known to be lying to serve his own agenda, and Powell was given the intel and told it was corroborated and reliable. Given the information Powell had, I don't think he did anything wrong here. He had no way of independently verifying the intel cherry picked and put on his desk.
Actually, his far worse act was he was the top brass who investigated the My Lai massacre many years earlier, and they found no wrongdoing by American forces. Not a good look there. I have a hard time second guessing anyone's behavior in a war, I have no idea how I would cope or react, but clearly something went wrong, if not on the ground, than at a higher level, someone should have been held accountable.
