There are all these people by the exits who I assume are security. What is their job?
I mean if I was there I'd be in a fight with these people.

All I'm going to say is that he'd better win this service game.

As a Djokovic fan, can't complain that the person with the most Djokovic-like game won. Obvs this is the first of many for Daniil.
20-20-20 lives for another day.
Edit: that was tough to watch, Djokovic tearing up.

Medvedev: "I've never said this to anybody, but for me you are the greatest tennis player in history."
Medvedev internal monologue: "... I tell you this because now I can say I absolutely rolled through the greatest tennis player in history."
Wait, what did he say he did after the match?

Would have been a great thing for the sport if Djoker could have pulled this off today and created a moment for the ages. Most majors, calendar slam, & undisputed GOAT in one fell swoop. Not to be. That said, congrats to Medvedev & Raducanu on their victories this weekend. Both of them will be stars in the sport for years to come.

So, a little bit of a break and then it's Laver Cup in Boston starting September 24th.

Crazy stat! One thing that is odd is how poorly Djokovic has played at the US Open especially in the finals. A 3-6 record in finals is really weird considering how dominant he is in Australia and in hard courts in general. Losses to Nadal (2) , Wawrinka, Federer, Murray and now Medvedev.

I feel like losses have a way of humanizing a player and I wonder if this loss will change the narrative of Djokovic for tennis fans. I wonder if he will get more crowd support around the world now or if this was just a one off where he received the overwhelming support yesterday. I know for me personally I started to cheer more for Federer in 09 after the AO final, when he broke down after the match.
Personally the difference between Fed and Djokovic is Federer seems like a genuine guy and I think is a great embassador for tennis. I think Djokovic is a tremendous player, maybe one day he will be the greatest ever, but he still does stuff on and off court that I can't stand. His display at the Olympics, his Adria tour , yesterday smashing his racquet and his vaccination stance rub me the wrong way.
On the flip side, seeing him cry into the towel and his emotions after the match made me realize how badly he wanted this and I did feel empathy towards him
