What level of American is Quick on your scale? If Howard is “Too American” he must rank as an 8-10, assuming a 10 point scale. Are there American players, say a 1 or a 2 that wouldn’t really be Americans, despite their birth certificate? If they accept Poutine as preferable to apple pie and/or ball park franks will this lower their ranking? Is there anything Howard can do to be less American and therefore a better potential acquisition? Perhaps he could tighten up those ou’s on his outs and abouts, and maybe go by James rather than Jimmy as that has a southern connotation....
... I’m bored.

Would you be willing to do Bennett for Howard and 3rd?
Is that even a big upgrade in net? Is it an upgrade at all?
It would make the Flames even softer than they are, but this team seems to want to finesse things only, so does that matter much?

I wouldn’t. A big part of what complicates any goalie trade is that the Flames will need to send a goalie back.

Good gravy no.
What an awful awful awful short sighted trade that would be.

I'm just not that high on Howard. He's got good numbers and has been fairly consistent, but hasn't he given up a bad goal in each game against the Flames this year that cost them a win?
Sounds a lot like Smith here, only difference is the Flames as a team have overcome the bad goals. Whereas the Wings, as a bad team, haven't been able to overcome them.
As good as the Flames are in terms of possession and attacking, they are only middle of the pack in terms of defending. I'm not talking about shots against, i'm talking about giving up high danger chances and scoring opportunities. If the Flames are going to upgrade in goal and pay a heavy price like a 1st round pick, it needs to be an elite goalie. If it's a guy like Howard, I wouldn't pay more than a 3rd round pick.

Absolutely not.
Bennett is a good, young, cost controlled piece. I would be hesitant to include him in a deal for Mark Stone let alone for 3 months of Jimmy Howard

If the Flames are lucky enough to make it to a Stanley Cup final against the Lightning, Bennett would be a key player. The only way to beat the Lightning in a 7 game series would be to rough them up and so the series would come down to Bennett, Tkachuk, Hathaway and Neal making things very uncomfortable for their skill players.
Until the Flames can find some toughness that can play, I don't think they can afford to trade Bennett. Not if they have any serious playoff aspirations.

I agree with that. I don't much care for Bennett, but in the playoffs definitely need that player profile. These are the guys that score 10 goals during a playoff run and then get ridiculous contracts that the team regrets for 5 years.

Just wondering, what package would you guys give up for a signed Stone? keep in mind his contract would likely be north of $8 million so a large contract has to go back.
Monahan?
