well he's back at is this year- kicked it off with a Lisa Loeb cover that has to be seen to be believed, followed by a more straightforward but pretty good Ramones cover (where Grohl rocks a Foufounes Electriques t-shirt)

Sadly, a few years the series ended and, shortly after, the videos all disappeared (I remember hearing that The A.V. Club’s new corporate owner didn’t want to deal with the licensing). Many have not been seen since – trust me, I’ve looked – and the few that did make it to YouTube are often low-quality or audio-only rips.

Three months ago, though, an anonymous YouTube calling himself Alvin Untercover (clever) uploaded what looks to be almost all of them, several hundred worth, in hi-def. Yo La Tengo covering the Supremes! Julien Baker covering Death Cab! And, of course, frequent guests GWAR covering Pet Shop Boys and Billy Ocean and Kansas and AC/DC.

Lord knows how long these will stay online, so watch them now while you can! Here are a few – okay, more than a few – of our favorites:

Alberta, Acoustic Roots Duo "Over The Moon" does a wonderful cover of an Ian Tyson song.

This one is pretty great. Kevin Barnes sounds great as Jack White. Amazing job.

Sloan is of course awesome and somehow makes Cars sound a litte Sloanish.

Murphy on drums always cracks me up, meanwhile Andrew Scott looks barely awake

Every few months, I like to put together an all-covers edition of the show. As I've stated before, I have a folder all set up to toss in whatever tracks I want to later air. This edition came a little bit sooner than usual due to a couple of fabulous tribute records.
The first release I wanted to highlight is the brand new An International Tribute To The Muffs, which features 26 fabulous covers of Kim Shattuck tunes. Proceeds from this release goes to the Team Shattuck Foundation of Kimīs Sister, Kristen Shattuck.

The other great tribute record is Drunk Dial Fakes, Vol. 2. This ingenious set features "real" bands covering songs that were written for fictional TV and film bands. How can you not love covers from The Rutles, CHiPs, and That Thing You Do?
