I do wonder if a vaccine that has been in development and trials for say 3 years longer will actually alleviate some of the supposed fears the anti vaxxers have.

I kinda doubt it.

From what I'm seeing, they are doubling down, and resorting to more untruths and lies to support their position.

Today I heard two blatant lies that just boggles the mind.

84% of the babies born in the US where the mothers had been vaccinated are dying. And the CDC said so.

That 10 newborns in the hospital in Winkler, Manitoba had died already because the mothers were vaccinated.

Both were circulated via fowards and voice messages.

Both were presented to me without any effort made by the moron who said it to actually look at it from a critical viewpoint and call BS.
Both were told by anti-vaxxers.

I agree - I think we are past the science convincing anyone.

Suspect the biggest three groups of people of unvaxxed people now are:
1) Anti-vaxxers who just won't get it no matter what until the virus directly impacts them or someone very close to them and will cause a ruckus if you try to inform them.
2) People who just can't be bothered to get it because they correctly feel they have a personally low risk with Covid and either don't understand or don't care that their decision puts others at risk.
3) People who would get it but aren't going to go out of their way to get it. There are probably a fair number of rural people in this bucket.

Probably your best bet for (2) and (3) is to just make it as simple as possible for people in rural areas to get vaccinated. Trouble is at this point - the 1st group will likely either harass the people giving the vaccine if you send them out to some rural area or the people who run places where you could vaccinate these people won't let you do it because they are a part of 1st group.

Some of the things that you are hearing are coming from a loud minority, amongst those not yet having the shot. Even if you want to say that half of the unvaxxed are anti-vaxx, that still leaves a huge number which could be persuaded given an alternative to mRNA. (that isn't Johnson or AZ)

I’m told the Restrictions Exemption program that pretty much all rec centres are opting for, not only includes vaccine exemptions for a youths under 17 to participate in sport, ALSO INCLUDES one non vaccinated parent to attend/ enter the facility. Can anyone confirm this?

At City pools, spectators must be vaccinated. And kids 12-17 must show proof of vaccines. If it's a private booking (swim club...) it's up to the organization that books it to check for vaccine compliance. And that includes parents. It goes with the City's bylaw that they passed (with only one vote against). I believe that's the same for rinks? We were given a FAQ sheet on how to handle it. Sounds like between now and Monday: it's education. After Monday: enforcement.

Yup. Quite a few friends who had planned on voting for him are emailing his crew to get his signs off their lawn.

A friend told me today he was suspicious of the vaccine because he thinks mRNA vaccines have only been researched for 8-10 years, and should have about 30-50 years of proven human injections to be safe. I told him mRNA research has been ongoing for roughly 40 years. Apparently the jury is still out in his world.

Of course, no problem doing weed, molly bought on the street, or breathing in carcinogens from environmental pollution though. He also though Ivermectin shouldn't be chastised, it helps treat COVID and the media has demonized it.

He also said COVID deaths are from comorbidities, an that unhealthy people are the most susceptible so its not really COVID.

I used this analogy - you stand in the middle of a busy street, and everyone is yelling at you to get off to the sidewalk. But you refuse, and say the chances of getting injured badly are low, because you're naturally immune to severe injuries by being exposed to other moving cars on the street that went by with no issue. So you get absolutely pulverized by an oncoming car, suffer extreme injuries, and possibly die. Your excuse is that you died from brittle bones, not the car. This all could have been avoided if you just moved to the sidewalk.

I asked him, does this sound reasonable? He just started at me blankly and said the vaccine sucks and he'll die making the choice.

It's at this point I just roll my eyes. Stubbornness is also a choice.

1st world countries shouldn't have violent protests and the military in the streets to quell the protesters. The right to assemble and protest is extremely important, and even here in Canada we allow the morons to protest in front of the hospitals when we very much should have them moved (to allow proper operation of the hospitals).
The protests in Australia have been small - a thousand protesters in a city of 4.5M. Every country has their morons, but these ones are choice. In addition to all of the the violence, they urinated on the war memorial, assaulted a reporter who was on air at the time, and punched police horses (2 separate instances). Compliance with the health orders was actually really good over the past year and a half. Most were behind the measures. It's just a few bad apples.

If I get forget COVID, and how frustrated everyone is, I still question the IQ of anyone who is peddling these lies further without ANY effort at critical thinking.

You have to actively go look on the darkest places of the internet to find these lies. Any legit news organization, regardless of how slanted they are will not report this stuff. And I say that realizing that news organizations are getting caught all the time perpetuating untruths without any accountability.

This STILL don't say anything like this.

That may be, but there are many, many incidents of police & military brutality, and that is unacceptable.

Like I said, the right to protest is fundamentally important in any free society.

I know a lady who was put on a ventilator 4 days ago, I don't think she's gonna make it. So she's gonna leave 2 kids under 10 and a spouse behind because of stubbornness.

Sounds like the city is working hard to do serious spot-checks. Unfortunately, I got turned away today at the Kilt in Mckenzie Towne on the way home from golf. I didn't even think of it until I had to pull out my temporary licence as I had to change address when renewing registration today.

I pulled it out with my vaccine card and she said she had to get the manager. He said they're out there quite a bit looking to catch businesses skirting this, and unfortunately had to match up your vaccine card with a photo ID.

I have no passport, so I guess I won't bother going anywhere until the license shows up in the mail.
