That puts us at 1.5% away from the triage protocol.

Never in my lifetime did I think we might actually get to this.
Agreed... Can't believe that Alberta let things go to this point before calling for a public health emergency...they should have called that 3-4 weeks before they actually did make the declaration.

I know he won't, but Kenney needs to resign. Many of these deaths are on him. I hope he had a relaxing vacation, because this is going to get very stressful.

Blame Trudeau and the Liberals for not having the election a month earlier. Poor UCP had to wait all that time because of it.

I can't believe where we are at right now. Remember when the pandemic first started and we were watching the Italians go through this scenario? It was heartbreaking and I could never imagine it happening here. Eff you Kenney and Hinshaw. Both of you deserve 15 years in prison.

And the difference between now and then is there's a vaccine widely available that could have prevented 80-90% of what's going on now. That's the truly sad part.

One of the biggest advantages Alberta has had during this pandemic is that we are at the end of the waves rolling over the globe. Instead of using that knowledge to learn from what was happening in other regions, our leaders bet it all on things being magically different here.

I was quite surprised, I guess I shouldn't be, but it was very noticeable and not that far from Calgary.
Antivaxx stuff is crazy even just outside Calgary. Langdon is bat**** crazy, too and just ten minutes east of the city. The local bar had to shutdown because of the level of crazy people and threats over enforcing the vaccine mandates.

Are the per capita case and ICU rates in Alberta the worst in North America?

At this point I am blaming the anti- vaxxers. They’re the sole reason we are where we are right now.

Not even close. 31 states have a higher rolling 7-day average for cases. In terms of hospitalizations per capita, Alberta would be 25th among US states and about the same for ICU.

No, Florida's current ICU per population is exactly 2x what Alberta's is right now and not long ago was 3x where Alberta is right now. Montana's is also 2x what ours is right now.

we're obviously all hockey fans, but I think the flames should rethink the full capacity at hockey games, at least for a while.

not sure if they'd consider 30% that some medical professionals suggest, but 50% seems to be the smart thing to do.

Aren't we vaccinated for a reason?

It’s criminal negligence. 110%. What Kenney did was criminal, and he should be charged.

This is what people should be (actually) outraged about. Not faux outraged about stolen garbage off doorsteps.

If Russia invaded Canada, Russia would be to blame for invading, but the Canadian government would be guilty of not protecting us from them. Same thing here. Kenney is responsible for not protecting us from the selfish and the stupid.

I got vaccinated for rabies before I went to Mongolia. Didn't mean I went and hung out with stray dogs while I was there.

Vaccination isn't perfect. And even if I'm safe from serious illness, the more we keep passing this virus around, the longer the pandemic will last.

Albertas young population let’s us in normal times get away with less ICU beds and things like that compared to Florida who is full of old people.

same. Could never have imagined it could ever happen in this country. even during all the other covid waves.

that's why it bothers me some people are currently using the argument that since they are double vaxxed, life should go on, and they should be able to do all the normal things.

no. not when our health care system is in the biggest crisis in history.
sure you're not likely to get covid, or if you do, go to the hospital with it, but that's not the point.

not right now.

Why should we sacrifice anything unless the government makes us. It’s bailing out the people who can fix the problem. Kenny Hinshaw and the unvaccinated.
