#Flames scout Hakan Loob, a guy who knows a little about creating offence, on Johannes Kinnvall: “A right-handed shot, good on the power-play, scoring points like he’s done the last two years … You don’t find too many free agents like that.”

per capfriendly the confirmed contract details are max ELC base salary and max ELC signing bonuses but no performance bonuses. Which is not unexpected for an undrafted UFA with options and identical to what they gave Lerby.

There is a European Assignment Clause for only the 1st year of the contract. That means the player must be assigned to Europe if he is not playing in the NHL and lines up with what they announced as the plan.

I always like these kind of signings. No risk, low reward in terms of player upside, but medium reward in terms of cap efficiency if they work out.

At the start of the 2021-22 season, he'll be 25. Have 6 pro seasons under his belt. If he works out, the Flames have a cost controlled 6/7 dman. If not, its an easy contract to bury.

If you can fill your lower half of the roster with these cheap ELC free agents instead of paying into low multi millions for guys like Jordie Benn, Michael Del Zotto, etc... it adds up.

Contract was rejected by the league today. A couple of changes were needed in the assignment clause and will be resolved in the next 24 hrs.

Does anyone know why Kinnvall has yet to play for HV71 this season?

Shoulder injury in pre-season. He should be back in a week to 10 days.

Since returning from injury, Kinnvall has picked up right where he left off.

5 games in, he's already sitting at 3 goals and 7 points, which is good for 5th in the SHL among D-men. No D-man in the top 30 has played as few games as him (only one has played less than 8).

He's also averaging 3 shots per game, something only 3 other D-men in the top 30 are doing.

Some exciting offensive potential in this guy. Even if his defense isn't all there, sheltering him 5v5 and letting him run one of the PP units when he comes over in 2021-22 seems like a good potential option if he sticks with the big club.

I've been posting about this guy in a few other threads. Last year, he was 8th overall in the league in scoring, second for D, with 40pts in 51g. I think we have a bit of a gem here.

Last season had a NHLe of 38 points and if he holds about a pt/gm his season thats an NHLe of 49 points. Expectations tempered but thats truly impressive.

Feels like a bummer to have to wait a year for him to come over, feel like he could fight for a job this year.
