I’d like to see the officials have the latitude to get out of the chair. Not necessarily to the level in the Nick match (though I thought that was well done and the umpire helped save that match) but in contentious situations like yesterday have the option. Perhaps getting out of his chair and being able to stand near her he would have had an better opportunity to defuse it. She wouldn’t have had to shout up at him then and they could have had a calmer conversation.

Of course, the argument back is it could lead to direct confrontation but I think that’s rare in all sports.

Serena was fined 17 grand for her actions yesterday.

/She won 1.85 million as runner-up to Naomi.

A day later, and I can't stop thinking about Naomi crying on that stage. I don't even have the heart to watch the men's final. Counting on updates from you guys

I'm rooting for Delpo but I think Joker is going to win.

I watched the highlights from yesterday. I can’t comment on the first warning (on whether Serena got coaching), but the point penalty and game penalty were well deserved. You can’t be talking to the umpire like that.

Del Potro had some chances in that 2nd set, have to think this one's over now.

Not ideal but at least no surgery required.

Chances Novak catches Nadal and/or Federer?

To give you an idea how dominate the big 3 have been this decade in the 90s there were 16 men who won a grand slam. In the 00s 15 and this decade we have 6 total.

If Novak doesn't break the record it's gonna be because of the drop off between Aussie 2017 and the start of clay 2018. I think there's still a decent chance, six more majors in the next three years is not impossible, but he's made it a lot more challenging. After he won the Novak slam, I thought he would for sure do it. I think 16 is pretty much a given, he might even win another Novak slam since he'll be the favorite in Aussie and the only player you'd give close to even odds of beating Nadal at Roland Garros.

But he wasn’t going to take it from a woman pointing a finger at him and speaking in a tone of aggression. So he gave Williams that third violation for “verbal abuse” and a whole game penalty, and now it was 5-3, and we will never know whether young Osaka really won the 2018 U.S. Open or had it handed to her by a man who was going to make Serena Williams feel his power.

What a load of crap. When guys did what she did I will call them a bitch. Which is why Federer is the greatest of all time.

I have the same amount of Grand Slams as Kygrios or Bouchard.

I find it galling. Some of these writers are much worse in the aftermath than Serena was in the moment. At least most of the comments seem to recognize this.
