Not sure what I think about Chicago scoring 5 in a period.

It’s kind of Calgary’s thing.

Then again, it’s against the Oil. Which makes it hilarious and enjoyable.

I would say that the Blues are virtually a lock to make the playoffs at this point. If they keep winning games for another week or two they might very soon be 6 points clear of the rest of the pack considering the way their competition is falling all over themselves at every turn. The Blues are actually a pretty good team, and with Binnington stabilizing the back end there is still a lot of time for them to even reach a divisional spot.

Final scores and links
https://scores.nbcsports.com/nhl/sco...p?day=20190205
http://sportsstats.cbc.ca/news/NHL-R...ate=02-05-2019

Some OOT games of note. The first one had the BJs coming back to win 6-3 over the Avalanche. Colorado had a 3-2 lead in the second period, Atkinson tied it up with 19 seconds left in the period. In the third period, the BJs scored two goals in 1:42 and then an empty net goal. The BJs win, who hold the final playoff spot, keeps them 3 points up on the Hurricanes and Sabres who both won. Big loss for the Avalanche as the Blues, who won, have overtaken them in the standings.

It was a repeat in the pregame of the Islanders-Bruins game. From the NBCSN link,."The pregame ceremonial puck drop featuring the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, who celebrated their sixth championship earlier in the day with a downtown parade. Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman, wearing his No. 11 on a custom Bruins jersey, led the group of players out on the ice and had the honor of dropping the puck between Islanders captain Anders Lee and Bergeron, but spiked the puck on the ice instead. "The same thing basically happened a few years ago when Tavares was with the Islanders, Gronkowski spiked the puck in that pregame ceremony and the final score was the same as last night's game, 3-1 Bruins.

It was Feb. 7, 2015 when Gronkowski spiked the puck and the final score in that game was 2-1 in reg time. Players that were in both games are Rask being in net and Bergeron scoring in each game. Other coincidences are the Bruins' PK was good in both games and the Isles only goal in each game were both on the PP.

It is looking like a turtle derby for the final 2 or 3 playoff spots. Heck, the Kings also have a shot, just 6 back of the 8th place Canucks. The Kings burned the Devils 5-1 as they scored 3 goals in 80 seconds early in the 3rd period. Kopitar with 3 assists, Toffoli scored 2 goals, and Kovalchuk scored one to drive the Devils crowd crazy.

It was 80s night in Pittsburgh and it was a nightmare for them. Carolina won 4-0, McElhinney with the 23 save SHUTOUT. The win keeps them 3 back of the BJs for the last playoff spot. The Hurricanes are tied with the Sabres who also won 5-4 in the SO over the Wild.

The Wild pick up a point in that SO loss and have a 4 point cushion on the 9th place Blues who beat the Panthers 3-2 in reg time.

They are conference rivals. The Jets are only 2 points back of the Flames for 1st place in the western conf. The Predators are 5 points back and the Sharks 4 points.
