It started before this year. Remember all the speculation he started re whether Treliving would be extended.

Friedman is the best insider in the game and is the only reason to listen to FAN960. People need to give their heads a shake.

What's the deal with Friedman? He mixed up Phelps and Lochte.

Friedman is great. It was unfortunate that he had a couple things he said on radio blow up in the greater sports media and now he has to be more guarded with what he says, but he's still the go-to guy for hockey news.

Fans are upset that he broke the Bennett rumour but that's his job. If it wasn't for him we would have zero inside information on the Flames as the local media is useless.

So true. Is there anyone in the local media who has any clue what's going on inside?

I like Friedman.. I also quite trust Lebrun with Flames rumours.

It's actually interesting how much of a pulse the national journalists can have on big rumours rather than the local media. Is this just because of the clout the national members have, or is it common for most of the Canadian markets? Maybe in Toronto and Montreal the local media may have a stronger ability of breaking the news first due to how much attention those franchises get.

I think a lot of insiders get info from agents who have a pulse on what is going on. Most agencies are back East and that’s where the likes of Friedman and Lebrun are.

I think the local media types keep their mouths shut if they know stuff. Sportsnet can’t go mouth off with inside info as it may jeopardize their relationship with the team and potentially hurt the station when it comes time for broadcast right negotiations.

Not only that but given how connected GM's are with each other you only need one or two people close to a GM to get a lot of information on other GM's.
