When you suck that hard for that long, how could you possibly disappoint anyone?

They are a dumpster fire going on a decade at this point. Literally the most inept franchise in league history.

The only disappointment will be if the new rink isn't christened by Oiler jerseys tossed on the ice by Halloween.

And to the Oiler fans - enjoy the price hike for tickets to watch your same old failures board the loser cruiser to craptown. Way to fill out Katz's kid's trust fund. I'm sure he'll thank you next time he announces your high first rounder (that you'll ruin and/or run out of town).

They'll be a disappointment to the fan boy media members and kool-aid chugging neanderthal's who get themselves hyped up over the oilers chances every single summer without fail.

Those types of idiots will never learn and deserve every bit of pain they get from believing in that cluster#### of an organization.

Yes!! Mclellan with the we're better visually comment!!

“We have to take the test,” cautioned McLellan. “We believe visually it is: a healthy Klefbom; adding Larsson; having Nurse grow as a player last year; Davey being a year older and more experienced. All of those external factors add up to say ‘Yes, it is.’

In their search for toughness, I think they're going to be a slow team. Sure they have guys with speed in their lineup. But you look at the other teams out there and they're all going to speed.

I just don't like the makup of that team at all.

I think that Lucic is going to be Chia's swan song.
Wait! What? Are you predicting the Oilers make the playoffs? Expectations that are they are going to stink as they always do. You have to distinguish "Oilers fans expectations" from "hockey world expectations".

It will be interesting to see what they do with Puljujarvi, from what I have heard he has been having trouble adjusting. Still haven't seen him play but I Remember around the draft hearing he will need some time. Hopefully the Oilers screw this one up and ram him into the nhl. I wonder if we see a new coach soon, McLellan has got to be getting up there for games coached by Oilers standard.

Yeah, I was shocked at this statement too. If the Oilers are disappointing anyone the blame lays with that person's expectations.

The Oilers suck out loud and unless Talbot maintains 'God Mode' all season long and pucks bounce in off of Lucic's ass the Tire Fire will be drafting Top 3 again.

They havent improved, they've just polished the brass on the Titanic.

I have to admit that at times the Oilers hype machine sucks me in and tricks me. Mark Spector was on with Rob Kerr the other day and damn near had me convinced that this was a playoff team.

They are definitely bigger (Lucic, Maroon, Nurse, Kassian) but are they better? I am worried that they might be this year?

I have to remind myself that we've gone through this same song and dance every single year for a decade. I just can't help but think that the Oilers will eventually have to get better in spite of themselves.

I heard that interview.

It was, like the Oilers, No Good.

May have been posted before, but I thought this was a nice, heartwarming story about the Oilers' new mascot.

Quote:
In a stroke of genius, the Oilers have produced a mascot that perfectly epitomizes both the Edmonton Oilers and its fans; a mascot with a face only a mother could love, representing a team only sadistic lunatics would continuously support. Hunter the Canadian Lynx is ugly and he knows it. He knows people will laugh at his ugliness but he still raises his paws in the air with a smile, posing on a hockey stick with every ounce of his surprisingly slim body. We Oilers fans will mock ourselves for the almost laughable ugliness year after year, but still cheer on the team with renewed optimism and relentless enthusiasm time after time, when we know everyone else is laughing at us, when experience has taught us we should really know better.

Beautifully ugly, endearingly terrifying, perfectly awkward-- Hunter the Canadian Lynx is an oxymoron that encapsulates the paradoxical experience of being an Edmonton Oilers fan. It's a kind of love others just don't understand, and that's what makes it special. When I see Hunter at an event or game, I will approach him and give him a hug while praying he does not eat my soul, bravely embracing this creature I have an irrational love for.

I'd love to know how this seemed like a good idea to anyone. I mean, I know the Edmonton Oilers' brand at this point is basically "Making small children cry uncontrollably" but this seems a little too on the nose. Oiler fans have already christened the god-forsaken beast "Meth Cat", and I don't need to tell you that it takes a lot to disappoint those people.

McDavid should be the mascot.

Although someone mentioned a lottery ball. That's genius.

Edmonton makes a good case for having a relegation system in hockey.

At what point should the NHL step in and stop them from collecting top 3 picks?

It should have happened a year and a half ago.

It should have happened long before that.

If hockey had relegation the Oilers would be playing in Bantam. If they're lucky.

If someone can photoshop Meth Cat's head on that awful McDavid painting from last year, you will receive my immediate and heartfelt thanks...

Speaking of "New Rink / Same Stink"...

...is nicknaming it "The Dumpster" something previously discussed in this thread, or just part of a beautiful dream I had? (Or both?)

"Jerseys raining down everywhere, these fans are livid! The Dumspter is on fire tonight, folks!"
