Look at the Footjoy Contour BOA. They are a conventional looking black leather shoe with the BOA closure on the heel. Unbelievably comfortable. I'll never go back to a lace up shoe again.

^ I have a pair of Nike tiger woods shoes, and I find they keep my feet dry.

I like these shoes because the have a nice wide toe box and my previous pair of foot joys were squishing my toes.

The FootJoys I recommended, like any decent golf shoe, come with a two year waterproof warranty. But breathability is even more important. Mine are going into their fifth season of use and still stay toasty dry in the rain. The better shoes also come in varying widths to get just the right fit. That's why shoes are one thing I won't buy online.

Good year to sign up for a membership as you literally get one more month of play.

Until it snows this month like it probably will:

Just have to look at the Normals Data for March data.

Tomorrow. Glen Eagles and Heather Glen on Thursday. Might see some of the other golf factories open as well to keep up (thinking the Silverwing/ Boulder Creeks of the world).

Apparently the courses in the Columbia Valley are going to be in an opening 'arms race' as well so there will be options in March that's for sure.

My guess is most places start to open mid-April.
Canyon has pure bentgrass greens so they don't need to worry about the cold. If anything that will help kill off any poa that has weasled it's way in.

What are your opinions of getting a private lesson or joining a group lesson? I've had several private lesson teachers and none of them had helped me significantly just marginally. Perhaps I haven't met the right coach for me.

Last year I was able to shave 10 strokes of my score to go from shooting a 93 average to shooting a 83 average.

I did this simply by watching youtube videos and doing a lot of early season driving range sessions. After about the end of June I stopped going to the Range and focused on playing anything from 9-18 holes or even short par 3's to work on shots.

By far last year was my greatest improvement year. And I have taken lessons previously.

Just a thought.

I started working at a golf course in the summers four years ago and have been lucky to have a few professionals give me advice. I wouldn't say any of them really helped "significantly", but when you add up all of the little tidbits of advice they've given me, it really adds up to a ton of strokes.

What's given me the best results though is getting out on the course and playing golf with all types of people. Playing from different tees, playing with friends, strangers, professionals. There's no substitute for just playing a lot of golf.

Over the past few years I've gotten my handicap down from around 20 to as low as 7. When I started I was thrilled to break 90, now I'm shooting in the 70's multiple times a year. I also play 45-55 times a year which I know isn't realistic for most people.

Do any of the open courses in and around the Calgary area have reduced early season green fees?
