Scanning twitter earlier today, I think TSN will be showing some of those classic matches from Wimbledon over the next couple of weeks that Nadal_Fan referenced aove (probably not the 1980 Borg - McEnroe final which still remains my favourite).
I totally understand, as a neutral 3rd party watching that match it was one of the most exciting matches I have ever seen. As a Federer fan it was probably the worst match possible. It would be like in 04 if the Flames were up in Game 7 against the Lightning and then the Lightning scored with 10 seconds left and won it in OT. I hope to never have that happen to Nadal for the rest of his career. How Federer recovered to finish the year pretty strong I will never know, if that happened to me I would be broken and never recover.
The 2017 AO Final was so painful because he was up a break in the 5th and if he closed it out, he would have 20 Slams and Fed would be on 19 now. Plus it was in Australia where he only won once, he could have been the first man in the open era to complete the double Grand Slam.
how spoiled we are, that our idols are already goats, but we're sad that they're not completely undisputed alone at the top of the mountain goats.
whenever tennis (and hockey!) get back I might just be able to watch for enjoyment of the sport again, and not care so much about the greatest debate. particularly if Felix ends up passing them all...
For me that's part of the reason why I became such a big fan of Nadal and tennis in general. Sadly I never got to see Iginla win the Cup or Steve McNair win the superbowl but I have watched from the beginning Nadal transform from a clay court specialist to one of the 3 greatest players ever. This GOAT race in terms of Grand Slams is kinda silly because there are more than 4 tennis tournaments a year but people act like those are the only 4 that matter. Yes they are the most important but what about the 1000 events, the tour finals, olympics don't those matter as well?
You can make a case for each of the 3 (Nadal, Fed, Novak) to already be considered the GOAT. Hopefully Felix/Shapo are taking this time to work on their game so they can start to win events very soon.

Did he not think people wouldn't notice it was him, what an idiot. Total lack of self awareness and regard for your fellow man utterly disgusting behavior.
What is that event anyways, is that a brunch? Do they normally have a DJ and dancing girls at European brunches? Aside from Zverev being typically brainless, it’s interesting how wide open France is now. Feels like not too long ago they were getting hammered harder than almost any other country.

I thought it was like a club or something by the beach it does look bizarre. Looks like a place where they charge $18/beer and $45 for brunch but it's not even good. Zverev should be at home self isolating and working on his 2nd serve instead he's partying it up. Dude will never win a major in his career.
With some impeccable timing, TSN2 is showing the 2017 Wimbledon 4th round match between Milos and Zverev. They are currently wrapping up the 3rd set and things are not looking good for the Canadian at the moment.
I forgot how dominate Milos was in that 5th set winning it 6-1 and when you consider Zverev was knocking on the door of victory in that 4th set, it was a gutsy comeback by the Canadian.

Milos strikes me as someone who would have won Wimbledon in the early 00's after Sampras and before the rise of Federer. His one finals appearance he just happened to run into a hot Murray who played a perfect match.
Before Nadal, Sampras was my guy, this is a great video showing how good he was at Wimbledon. I would love to have seen a match between Sampras and Djokovic at Wimbledon and Sampras vs Nadal at the US Open. I still have Sampras as #4 in terms of all time best Mens tennis players.

interesting, I had always assumed that Sampras fans transitioned to Federer, and Agassi fans went over to Nadal. you've got the master server, all court 1hbh with the reserved personality and clothing, versus the punishing returner/baseliner 2hbh with the rockstar/pirate outfit and fiery court persona.
I think it'll be a long time before we see two Americans battling it out at the top like those guys. much more likely we'll have a 10+ year Canadian rivalry for tennis supremacy (both on mens and womens side)
I didn't follow tennis that much at that time but I remember watching Sampras play and he had this confidence about himself that he seemed like he was going to win. I also remember cheering for him hard to win the French Open because he was never able to do it.
Your right Canadian Tennis is hot American Tennis is not
