Default Friedman: Hanifin headed to market; Markstrom waiting

per Friedman on HNIC

Agent or team will not comment but all signs show Hanifin will be traded.
Some Canadian teams interested in Hanifin but US teams more confident they will be able to sign him

Markstrom situation is when the Flames have an offer they like is to bring it to him and he will make a decision

Thanks - so nothing imminent and all of last week's fantastical trade hauls were likely wishful thinking.

Is this the biggest trade deadline in Flames history?

I don’t think that is necessarily the case. The deadline is less than three weeks away, so trades are imminent. Sounds like Markstrom is on the table as well.

Nothing new here….

Conroy had been getting good value (so far) for our UFAs, I’m excited to see how this unfolds.

I’m thinking Hanifin for a 1st and Ben Hanowski.

I think what we can extrapolate from the last two days are that negotiations are ongoing. And, I think there's a real trade done with NJ but the details are taking time to iron out. If you listen to most post trade deadline GM presser, deals take time to unfold.

To put it one way, the Markstrom to NJ trade most likely is 90 percent complete.

I cannot believe this much groundswell happened for no reason. The noise wasn't coming from just CGY. It was coming from everywhere. Too much smoke for this not to cross the finish line in my opinion, it's not if, but when.

Disagree, the noise was coming from outside Flames and was being amplified by the mom's basement dwellers like Frank and Elliot who have somehow converted gossip broken telephone talk into lucrative 'careers.'

Hope I'm wrong, and I often am. But I am resetting my expectations for this trade deadline.

Honestly, focus needs to be Chris and Noah. The rest is just gravy.

If Conroy can trade all of Hanifin, Tanev, and Markstrom he’ll have put together my all-time favourite year as a Flames GM (I was 3 in 89).

Get it, Connie!

From the main forum page it just says “Hanifin headed to…”. What a tease.

Kind of feel like a lot of wind out of Flames fan sails here. Was expectations we were turning a page with some intriguing young players and now doesn’t seem as likely as it was.

Ugh...on the one hand I hate this and the other its what I want.

The reason I hate this? While I'm not opposed to getting assets for pending UFAs and good players...we're still stuck and saddled with Huberdeau, Kadri, etc.

So we're in this weird 'in-between' place.

Even if he keeps Marky, if he gets good value for the other two that will be a heck of a start to a rebuild.

You trade your 1C, complete second pair d, then it's a rebuild no matter what they call it.

That's the cosmic terror of the Flames right now, nothing says there is no god, that the universe wants to kill you and that we are alone, like those two contracts. It's ####ing crazy that we are stuck with them for so many more years.

Kadri has his moments. But I just can't bright side Huby any more. I hope he develops an allergy to hockey and retires.

It is a huge deadline. Conny must be incredibly busy. Trading three players by the deadline is a huge undertaking. I hope he can get it done, but if not, Hanifin and Tanev are the priorities.

They aren’t good enough for a retool, this needs to be blown up. They don’t have enough talent and anyone who says different is just plain wrong.

Truthfully, this is probably where expectations should be.

I think the dream is the Dallas model. If you can develop well, then having Seguin/Benn doesn't hurt as much. You also get a massive cap injection in 5&7 years not allowing for the Tre style spend money on stupidity strategies rushing the reload (mason raymond, james neal, troy brouwer). It's a reach to find a silver lining because most days I am fully aligned with you on this...but Dallas gives me hope.
