I don't understand this sentiment. We have one of the hottest goalies in the league. Many teams that think they have a shot at a run need a goalie. To me, this means now is the time teams would be most incentivized to make a trade which may involve an overpayment.
In the summer teams have time, no pressure and the playoffs seem (and are) a long ways away.

One of the hottest goalies in the league playing on a team 1 point out of a WC. Trading him now is ridiculous and you’re already admitting defeat on the season. If by the TDL the team is more than a couple points out, then sure, trade him.

Also, no one is injured in the summer - every team has their full compliment of goaltenders on their roster

Because Markstrom has an NMC and his first choice is to stay in Calgary. He's not hoping to waive his clause to go just anywhere, and I very seriously doubt he would waive it at all mid-season.

But we don't know any of that. He may be happy to chase a cup. He does not have to waive to go just anywhere, he gets to choose and if he thinks he can put that team over the top, maybe he waives. We don't know his thoughts at all and why would they be different in the summer than now?
I would think a player that knows there is a very long chance of winning here now or in the next two years would want to chase. Particularly a top 5 goalie, when goalies have an outsized influence in the outcome of playoffs.
Dance when the pot is hot is not a saying but it applies now. Teams are desperate and he just earned the #1 star of the week. Things don't get hotter than right now. That is overpay territory.
