Unbelievable on a lot of levels. It took them nine years to realize that their sponsors are their owners? It’s got to result in relegation, but it’s also going to take forever to get there, right?
It does make you wonder if this is as much about nailing City as it is about sending a shot across the bow for Chelsea and Newcastle.

Imagine thinking this will result in anything lol. Wouldn't be surprised if they offer a massive fine so they can claim a "win" rather than losing in court like UEFA did.

I’m not so sure. They spent four years on the investigation, and you’ve got to think they’re pushing for a big penalty. Honestly, a points deduction doesn’t make a lot of sense at this point because you’re looking at 9 years of fraud. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but it’s got to be a big penalty to deal with a big fraud.

Nah, this is another Trump "Surely they've got him this time!" situation. They'll either pay a fine or win in court. I actually see the fine being the play, allows the PL to claim a win and avoids the humiliation of losing, and sets the standard for Chelsea and Newcastle in the future to buy their way out.

I get the cynical reaction, but explaining to the other 19 PL clubs why over 100 (!!!) breaches don't warrant significant action is a tall order.

Hence why they came out with the "look at all the big things we can do!" at the start so when it gets bargained down to a fine it's still "punishment". Cynicism is how you avoid getting mad in life, hope kills lol.

While pessimism is reasonablly expected in this situation, it is sounding as though some appreciable justice may be served. A key difference to the previous charges with UEFA is that City cannot appeal the decision of the independent commission reviewing the Premier League's charges. It will be interesting to learn how effective any delaying tactics will be with the commission.

so again, I get being cynical. But the volume of allegations is pretty crazy. And Juventus have been severely punished too.

That's an enormous amount of money that your club lost because of the fraud they've committed. I can't see that being well received by the league.

This fees like a pretty big moment with Chelsea and Newcastle waiting patiently to be the next clubs that make a mockery of FFP, and Liverpool and United potentially being sold soon too.
The punishment needs to be harsh enough to deter the next round of cheaters.

"PL Club caught for having too much money...they shall be issued a fine."
Didnt they get caught for this already? I feel like they've already been caught for this a couple times.
Anyways, yeah, the 'Sponsorship' deal was known and obvious circumvention in like, 2009.

The right thing to do is re-award the titles for those two seasons.

"the right thing to do" would be to nuke the club and send it to non-league football, but alas, I'll take any punishment the league has the courage to come up with.

There really is no punishment that could be too big here. They cheated their way to the top of the pyramid and will use that success to stay there. They should be dropped a couple divisions and banned from buying players for multiple seasons. Make them start over.

If guilty the only substantial punishment would be relegation. A fine is useless - they have money to burn.
Relegate them to the championship, they are back up in a year anyways, and in the end probably makes no difference long term but the FA can say they handed out a tough punishment.

You have to admit, that would be fun as hell to watch.
