20lb is the regular size right?

Costco by far is the best deal. Only thing it loses out on is convenience. Buy the new tank there and get it filled I think for a flat rate of 50$( I could be wrong on that price)

When we take our tanks back to Costco it is about 8.75 to fill them. Yes that is not a typo. Its crazy what gas stations charge and how much the exchange program is.

Though there is a price for convenience so you can factor that in.

Costco? Home depot? Superstore? other?

Should I grab an empty one and fill it? Or grab one that's already filled?

Costco is waaaaaay cheaper than your local gas station.

Still...yours if you want it.

Located SE Calgary.
Hmm, thanks for the offer. Having a spare might not be a bad idea. Unfortunately I'm across the city in the NW and bogged down right now due to kids and busy season and I wanted the tanks for this Saturday... but if you're still looking to get rid of a spare tank sometime in December, maybe we can make something work?

Are the propane tanks still sold in store in the Costco locations right now? I know they're there in the summer, unsure whether they'd be there right now. It wouldn't be too bad to grab a pair and run them over to the gas bar to fill them.

https://www.costco.ca/bernzomatic-20...100284763.html

So it basically says it's $50 for an empty tank, but empty cylinder/tank must be filled? Confusing wording. But if you're saying it's basically $10 to fill, $60 ish all in isn't bad at all.

My wording is confusing?

I'm actually not sure about the buy a tank and fill it up rate. I really can't remember what it was.

But the in store price for the tank is definitely not 50$ I think its 38$ or something close to that.

I meant Costco's website wording is confusing. What you said makes sense to me. I'll probably call Costco later to confirm availability in store and pricing. Thanks!

So I called Beacon Hill Costco last night to confirm that location had it and then went in to nab what I needed.

- 20 lb tank $38.99
- Propane fill $11.19

All in less than $55 w/ GST included in store.

The fills at Costco are cheap, but it’s a bit of a process if you want it refilled. It would be better if you didn’t have to go inside to pay.

What does everyone recommend for furnace filters? I used to get the 3M Filtrete 1500. Now I hear those are too restrictive on the fan. Would MERV 6 be too low? Is it better to just get less restrictive filters but change them more often?

Just go with cheap ones and replace every three or four months.

The primary purpose of the filter is to protect the fan and heat exchanger from dirt and dust. It's not to help "clean" your house's air. Your furnace fan does not produce very much static pressure to pull air through a filter; the thicker the filter, the more it's going to reduce your furnace's air flow, which will become a problem eventually, potentially freezing your A/C coil or cracking your heat exchanger.

MERV 6 is plenty.

I am remodeling my gas fireplace and have removed the old stone which was affixed to plywood using mortar and wire. I am planning to replace it with stacked stone tile but should I remove the plywood or can I attach cement board over top?

I use the one at Walmart, it's like a vending machine, done outside without attendants help. Basically get a bottle somewhere and when empty, exchange it at the machine for a full one. It costs about $24. Not sure the exact amount. Bonus, always get a newly certified and clean tank so no need to replace every 10 years.

So I fill mine about 10 times a year for $13-$15. So let's say that service costs you $9 more. That's $90 extra a year, or $900 over 10 years. A new tank is ~$50. So $850 more to use a tank exchange.

You fill your propane tank 10 times a year?! Maybe I’m lost, but that is a crazy amount of propane? What are you using this for?

I BBQ a lot, particularly in the summer. Pretty much ever dinner is on the BBQ, as I don't have A/C, so it becomes a bit of an oven, too. It's maybe more between 8 and 10 times.

At that point wouldn’t a natural gas bbq start to make more sense?

Yes. I've had, err, other projects...I'll probably run a line next summer, and convert it.

Actually, that leads to a question...anyone know if I can run a rubber gas line in pvc conduit? I just want to protect it from things like a snow shovel, as I was thinking of running it along the side of the deck. It won't be buried.
