So this is a thread about how you found these guys attractive before they grew beards?

just did some google research - just to get this straight: you guys over there watch a reality show about guys with long beards who ... have a "duck call company" and go duck hunting?

Uhh... that didn't exactly come out the way I meant it.
I've only watched a couple of episodes of this show but they seem to show their wives quite a bit in the show and I'd be thinking how in hell did these dumb sounding hillbilly characters end up with wives that are somewhat attractive and intelligent.
Now that I've seen pics of them pre-Duck Dynasty... I can see that without the beards these guys look fairly normal.

Pretty much. And while they are likely acting up for the cameras they are usually far more entertaining than a 30 minute sitcom.

It's getting a little silly now but the first season of that show was pretty darn entertaining.

Caught a couple episodes of this show a little while ago. Found it somewhat interesting and entertaining until I realized how formulaic and scripted it is.
Brother 1 and 2 have a competition to see who can catch and sell more fish. Brother 1 catches few, but has found a buyer who wants more. Brother 2 catches many, but can't sell them. They team up and combine their fish and sell them to 1's buyer. Then there's a dinner montage at the end talking about lessons learned. I know there is no such thing as true reality TV, but this is like an episode of How I met your mother or some garbage.
But yeah, they used to be dreamboats and made a ton of money and have attractive wives and are obviously great businessmen.

Goes to show how far TV and society today has fallen. When a show about a few long bearded guys who sell duck whistles is the most popular show on TV, there is a major problem. I don't understand the facination with this show. I tried to sit through an episode once just to see what all the fuss is about and couldn't make it past 15 mins. All this 'reality' TV has gotten out of control. The funny part is that none of it is actually 'reality'. You can tell that almost all of it is completely scripted. The only thing worth watching on TV is live sports and news.

I actually think the show is great satire of American stereotypes rolled into an amusing 'Leave it to Beaver' type semi-scripted dramedy. I normally detest reality TV in itsmany forms, but I'll watch Duck Dynasty now and again for some chuckles. I'm waiting for the first gay recurring character to show up. I haven't seen any yet, although I certainly haven't watched all, or even most, of the episodes.
It's the closest thing I think the states has to Red Green...

Duck Dynasty is easily my favourite show on TV these days. It's goofy, they're idiots, it's enjoyable to watch.

I haven't seen the show. Better or worse than the Trailer Park Boys?
Well I guess the Trailer Park boys never tried convincing anyone that they were real...

Yeah, odd comparison. It's a scripted comedy vs a reality tv show.

I believe that both shows are equally as scripted.
And shouldn't the thread title read "before and during beards"?

I don't for a minute believe that this show is all spontaneous. Scripted? Not completely, but they have a game plan of what they want to do and they ad-lib the heck out of it hoping to get some funny and outrageous moments.
You can't tell me that Willy and Si being handcuffed together was planned. Why would Willy be driving around while handcuffed to his uncle while Jace sits in the backseat and makes comments? Wouldn't it be better for Jace to drive? Perhaps, but that would be boring.
Duck Commander was reality, Duck Dynasty is them realizing they can make some money and fame by acting up and being immature in front of cameras.

I like it too. Lots of the same stuff over and over again but they have original humor, and you don't spend most of the time rolling your eyes.

If beards become more socially acceptable because of this show, it's a good thing. Not sure why being able to grow manly facial hair is a bad thing by societal standards.

I know shaving sucks, but the "Civil War General" look needs to go back to the 1800's.
Beards are okay, but they need to be tight.
