I didn’t know that. So the in game protest is useless then. However, Co-opting the player outside of the game could still be effective like the Winnie the Pooh thing.

I love the rationalizations that pirates use to try and justify their actions. You're going to do it anyway. Just stop trying to pass your actions off as being noble. They aren't.

Anyway, Blizzard mostly caves. They restored the winner's prize and reduced his suspension. Their blog post on it is full of more bullcrap than the election campaign though:

"I want to be clear: our relationships in China had no influence on our decision."

Blizzard is no different than any other giant gaming company, they only care about the bottom line. The old Blizzard that was a "different" gaming company is cold dead in the ground. Blaming Activision isn't an excuse anymore either.

I don't think you're going to find the Ethical Capitalism unicorn living here.

Bungie seems to be the only studio bearing that torch.

Blizzard canceled a launch party at Nintendo's NYC store meant to celebrate Switch's launch of Overwatch today:

And now Lebron is getting raked over the coals for publicly supporting China over Hong Kong. It's crazy that someone already so rich would so quickly tarnish their image and reputation just for the chance to make even more money

James has done a lot good in his career off the court, but ya he deserves every bit of criticism he’s receiving right now.

Yup, James has shown his true colours here. He's all about himself forever. He's done good for kids with his charity work, but when it comes to himself vs. adults, it's always about himself and how he can further his own agenda. This will all blow over but the guy should have sponsorship deals taken and this should follow his selfish legacy. Asian fans should be livid over his selfishness.

I disagree. Lebron is actually selfless in this case. He represents the PA and many players have money deals in China. Similarly, Steve Kerr coaches multiple players who currently have shoe deals with Chinese companies. Klay Thompson's deal with Anta is reportedly worth up to $80 million. Maybe Kerr should have just spoken up anyways, but he could have cost some of his guys a significant amount of money had he done so.

There is no anti-China stance. That ship has sailed.

Even Taiwanese-American Jeremy Lin, hero to all Asian-Americans, has endorsement and reality TV deals in China and just signed for Beijing in the Chinese League. Asian fans should be more livid with this.

Ship has long sailed, bed is made.

Selfless doesn't mean what you think it means.

How exactly is Lebron selfless? He’s a shill for the Chinese government. He’s chosen money over human rights.

He could have just said no comment.

No comment only goes so far for so long. He would be criticized for not taking a stand.

to me it looked like James was kicking Morey at the behest of the Chinese money.

I liked this column about James speaking out.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...67e_story.html

James had more than a week to organize his thoughts. He even could have run them by public relations officials for insight on how his remarks would be received. But when he spoke, he was more graceless, impulsive and ignorant than he has ever been.

Not only at the behest of Chinese money and also to protect money other players are making.

Morey did not consider this when he made his comments.

Again this is not a new issue in China. Businesses and Sports leagues have made their bed with China years ago.

and that's all james was mad about. players were put in an uncomfortable position that also threatened their money.

the most telling thing is james would have been ok with the tweet if he waited a week and he didn't have to answer questions about it.

made it look like james doesn't care about anything but the gravy train.
he's only upset that he was made uncomfortable and his money was threatened.
we knew it already but all he did was again prove money trumps all, to him.

Money trumps all to everyone. Morey's tweet has cost a lot of people money. James Harden sells tons and tons of sneakers in China and already voiced displeasure with Morey’s comments

If Morey worked for Nexan(CNOOC) or any business with ties to China hed be fired.

This is how China is, been this way for 70 years.
