How do the RCMP pay their agents/CI's?

The withdrawal of $475,000 in cash by the man who killed 22 Nova Scotians in April matches the method the RCMP uses to send money to confidential informants and agents, sources say.
Sources in both banking and the RCMP say the transaction is consistent with how the RCMP funnels money to its confidential informants and agents, and is not an option available to private banking customers.

Again, that’s not how it works. End of story. Paul Palango has a major axe to grind with the RCMP, always has and I question the veracity of his “sources”. Doesn’t take much for a disgruntled RCMP member with zero knowledge of how the process works to say something off the cuff and then presto, there’s your police source. And the whole point of paying informants is to do so without people knowing, so I doubt his banking sources as well.

The timing is interesting? They already said they had no connection to the guy so they went public again to refute the McLeans story.

Call me crazy but there's gotta be a way to figure out where the 475,000 dollars came from. That's not an insigificant amount of cash.

He took the money out of his account apparently. Possibly due to covid 19 pandemic fears.

Yes, but that money he took out of that account, he's asking where that came from.

Well I think the guy was quite wealthy. Owned several homes and cottages, had two denture businesses. I’m not rich so I don’t know what methods rich people have for storing/withdrawing money.

Quote from the Macleans article:
Quote:
A Canadian retail banking expert speaking on condition that they not be identified says it is unlikely that Wortman was cashing out his own savings when he collected the money from Brinks after the money was transferred from CIBC Intria.
“When you come into my branch and you want a ton of cash, then I say, you gotta give us a couple of days. We put in our Brink’s order, I order the money through Brink’s, then when the money arrives, you come back into the branch, I bring you into a back room and I count the money out for you,” the banking expert said. “Sending someone to Brink’s to get the money? I’ve never heard of that before. The reason is, if I’m the banker, and you’ve deposited your savings in my bank branch, I’m responsible for making sure the money goes to the right person. If you want this money, I’m going to verify your identity and document that. I can’t do that if I’m transferring the money to Brink’s.”

Had an idea!

Didn't Paul Wells run the McLeans story? He usually has decent sources and definitely doesn't write something because he has an axe to grind....
I wasn't taking the CI story serious until Wells wrote his article.

I'm a bit of a news junkie, but a few days after this all happened I found myself unable to read about it, turning the radio station off if news came on, and just basically withdrawing from it all. Not just about this, but the whole world.
Only the past month or so have I been able to go back again and read anything about what happened.
Saw this this morning... https://newsinteractives.cbc.ca/long...3-deadly-hours
It's a good article, a lot of details that I didn't know and some that I did but hadn't been "confirmed" anywhere. Reading it brought back a lot of feelings from back then though. Be warned, it's difficult and may stay with you for a while.
There is a link to the 5th Estate documentary in the article. I don't think I'll be watching that just yet.

So its just a couple days away from the 1 year anniversary of this tragedy and remembrance of the victims and all that goes along with it.
One thing that really needs to be brought to ight though is the RCMP and their complete lack of any sort of communication to victims families since. There are SO many questions unanswered.
Lat June 4 they issued a statement that they would update the public weekly with changes made within, any sort of news on the investigation, all that kind of info.
They havent spoken about it since.
The lack of accountability, empathy, and general disregard to the citizens is just unfathomable.
The RCMP is such a broken institution.
Halifax reporter Sarah Ritchiw did a comprehensive podcast that takes you through the whole event and also touches on what is going on with the RCMP and all its warts.
