So our options are to recommend a podcast or to "don't" a podcast?

Cool.

For a fun movie podcast I'd recommend "Sardonicast."

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I now have more than enough to go on with these.

Someone asked what I like and I would say my favorite topics are in this order:

Film/Music
Science
Food/Beverage
History
True Crime
Sports/Entertainment Industry Storytelling

Just as a "for instance" of what I consume, right now I'm reading "History of the World in 6 Glasses" By Tom Standage. Covers the development of societies through the lens of 6 beverages being produced: Beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, cola. Really fascinating so far.

Pardon my take - sports and guests. Probably best sports podcast out there.

Small town murder - comedians go over a crime in a small town. Highly entertaining.

Crime in sports - same two comedians but go over the life of an athlete. Highly recommend the OJ Simpson one. 2.5 hours and they only spend 5 minutes on the murder.

Sword and Scale and also Casefile are easily the best true crime out there. Search online for some classic episodes. They are both haunting.

Serial, Hardcore History and Joe Rogan are great. Running from Cops and Astonishing Legends are also fantastic.

My favourites tend to lean towards history...

Cautionary Tales deals with historical mishaps and the psychology of why we do dumb things.

Fall of Civilizations is a great long-form podcast. If you like Hardcore History, give this one a try.

History of the 90s deals with general, Canadian, and pop culture history of the 1990s.

1867 and All That for Canadian political history.

Tides of History is by the guy who did Fall of the Roman Empire - deals with the late medieval and early modern history.

Infamous America is hit and miss for me as I don't care too much for American history, but so far it has done miniseries on the Salem Witch Trials, The Black Sox, Billy the Kid and John Dillinger.

Cool Canadian History, exactly what's on the label.

History This Week and BBC Witness History are both great little 10-20 minute podcasts for short drives.

Sports podcasts... kinda pointless right now, so I've fallen way behind.

The Stratagists is back, after a four year layover.

It was great political commentary back in 2016 for the Alberta, Then Canadian, Then US election.

First episode back was a bit rough to start, but I'm optimistic they will provide some good insight into the US election, the conservative leadership race, and other political wrangling Calgarians should care about.

I see Spotify has purchased the rights to Joe Rogan's podcast. Should make Joe a very rich (richer) man.

Good for him but that sucks if you’re used to watching on YouTube.

May not be for everyone, but if you are interested in the business of big tech, I really like NYU professor Scott Galloway. He is on Pivot, with journalist Kara Swisher and his own podcast the Prof G show. Smart guy, with interesting takes and a good sense of humour (at least for me).

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I haven't listened to Pivot yet but the Prof G show is great if you are interested in business or investing, especially during/after COVID-19.

Youtube is constantly making things harder for it's original content creators in order to promote traditional media companies on their site. Youtube lost $70B as a direct result of altering their algorithm in order to promote the messages and sources they prefer, usually to the detriment of it's original creators. Any content creator must see that happening and be planning an exit strategy. A golden parachute landed on Joe's lap and he took it.

Yeah a lot of YouTubers are branching out as quickly as possible to other platforms (and Patreon/Patreon-alternatives).

It's very much a sinking ship situation, where mid-level creators have hundreds of thousands of subs, but only hit 5-10k views in a day on a new video while their "popular" videos from years prior rack up hundreds of thousands of views every week, since that's all YouTube's algorithm promotes.
