icon57 Rittich healing from elbow injury for Flames during pause

Quote:
"One day before leaving [Calgary], I had gotten a plasma injection into my elbow that had been bruised and I had some stretched tendons there," Rittich said Friday. "I could not do anything for a week. … This week, I started to exercise a bit and recover. I am in quarantine, so it was a bit of a problem to get some workout equipment from the fitness center. My friend is going to lend me some stuff here in Jihlava so that I can start with some preparations. So far it has been only working out with my own body weight."
Quote:
"This season has been kind of a roller coaster for us," Rittich said. "Not just for me, but for the entire team. There were so many things that happened. It was not as clicking on the ice like in the last season. We have had some issues that either were not so visible or they were hidden behind the fact that we scored a lot of goals. It has been an interesting season that brought me many new experiences, and I think it can only help me, what I went through during this year. Obviously, I would be glad to play again, I hope people get healthy and everything comes back to normal."

With Rittich seemingly injury prone I don't see him being more than a tandem goalie in the future. The Flames should not be factoring any more than 50 games from him in a season.

That and he's never played tons of games before in his whole career. Ideally we would have a 45/37 split between him and Talbot.

Also, our defense has to be better. We rely on our goalie way too much and give him way too much work...no wonder they get injured.

This season was only Rittich's third season playing in the NHL, let's not write him off as never being able to play more games. Goalies rarely come into the league and play a starter amount of games, it takes time.

Rittich's NHL career to date has appeared similar to Jakob Markstrom's, and he is being touted this year as a Vezina candidate and a high-demand UFA.

Is he though? I think he is a good goaltender but a .907 save percentage and a GAA of nearly 3 don't scream Vezina trophy, especially in a small Canadian market.

There are around 10 other goaltenders who I would say have a better shot than Rittich at this point in the season (or whatever it is right now)

Edit: Since I am sure I will be asked to list them.

Rask, Hellebuyck, Bishop, Binnington, Markstrom, Vasilevskiy, Hart, Fleury, Holtby, and Price (based in part on reputation).

I wasn't talking about Rittich, I was talking about Markstrom.

Oh, my mistake. Sorry about that.
