The thing is for Hall, does he even have any real ties to the city of Calgary anymore? Being he left at 13 and played all his junior in Ontario, I am not sure if he has any type of hometown pride like some do. Just asking as some on this forum have stated the Flames would have a leg up in free agency due to some perceived desire to play where he was born.
Has there been any instance where he stated it would be cool to play for the Flames, since that was his team growing up? Some players do say such words, even our own Johnny hockey has stated such in the past(bout playing in Philly).

If he has said anything I think it was before he got drafted. Wouldn't dare say anything like that when he was in Edmonton and I haven't heard anything post trade.
I've talked to him and it's never really come up. Eberle, on the other hand, has said a few times he'd love to be in Calgary, and he only lived here for 2 years

Don’t see why Ottawa does that? They are just starting a rebuild they will not trade those assets for 2.5 years of Johnny

People will want to trade Johnny because they see him as a one dimensional player who can’t succeed in the playoffs.
But of course, they will value him as a offence driving 100 point player capable of bringing in a Barkov type player.
As usual, the actual truth lies somewhere in between.

I'd look at a Ladd for Neal deal
it might be case where both players need a change of scenario, and Trotz knowing Neal, might be able to unlock him
Ladd on the flip side could be rejuvenated back in calgary
the salaries are basically even...its worth a shot imo

Just don't trade any of: Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, Lindholm, Bennett, Backlund, Mangiapane, Dube, Ryan, Hamonic, Hanifin, Andersson, Valimaki, Kylington, Rittich
All are young or experienced veteran C/D that are reasonably aged and paid.
Let the young guys learn from this failure before blowing it up.

I would trade Neal for Loui Erickson due to the one less year that Erickson has on his deal

I think Neal will be here until expansion. Compliance buy out if he doesn't rebound.
Who knows, maybe he gets angry and goes crazy on his summer routine. Could happen.

I don't think you can go into the off season with a 15 untouchable list, especially including guys who have made little to no mark in the NHL.
Players tend to learn from failure when they get close and just can't seem to get over the hump. Calgary was outclassed from the initial puck drop. I hate to think what the team learned from that.

Untouchables: Gaudreau, Bennett, Tkachuk, Valimaki, Giordano.
Monahan may as well be on this list too as he is more valuable than anything we could get in return. With him it's at least worth entertaining offers, but unlikely to be beneficial for both teams. Hamonic falls in this area too.
Everyone else can range from a solid return (Brodie), middle picks and B prospects (Frolik) or a used Q tip (Neal).

I think Anderson would be in the untouchables, no?

Interesting that Bennett makes your untouchable lost but all purposes winger Lindholm does not. Did you just forget about him?

I could agree to that, but hypothetically, what if Andersson + Monahan could land us a top 10 centerman?
I'm not trying to make that sound like a legitimate player valuation as I'm terrible at it and that's why I didn't want to make a full on trade proposal.
Losing Andersson would hurt a lot more than Brodie though.

Lindholm is another player I would be adverse to trading but would still listen to offers on. It would take a lot for me to trade him, but I would still see what's being offered. He is far from the first guy I would be looking at unloading.

Monahan for O'Reilly?
(I'm by no means any good at this trade proposal thing)
I realize Blues very likely value O'Reilly much higher than Monahan for all the intangibles and his style of play.

everybody always says you 'Can't win with this guy' until they do win!
Ovechkin was a big one, everybody saying you can't win with him. O'Reilly was shat on for half the year despite good numbers, because 'you can't win with him' and now we are discussing his intangibles and his style of play.
Bobrovsky, can't win with him, he sucks in the playoffs (despite him having to play against the eventual Stanley cup winners in '17 and '18 and a good penguins game in '14 that all but one game was decided by a goal.
So the line of "you can't win with..." is really just bull####.
