Horrible bombings in Sri Lanka.
Three churches and three hotels bombed during Easter Sunday. 165 killed thus far according to Indian sources.
No group has claimed responsibility as of yet. The Tamil vs government civil war ended in 2009. So I'm guessing it's unlikely that's the cause.

Six explosions ripped through Sri Lanka’s churches and popular hotels on Sunday morning, with authorities saying 165 people were feared dead. Worshippers were targeted at the Kochikade, St Sebastian and Batticaloa churches during Easter mass. The other locations are Hotel Shangri La, Cinnamon Grand and Kingsbury hotel.

Attacking people during religious services is one of the lowest things a human being can do.
I can't imagine what these families are going through

I'm not sure this it's that unlikely. After a truce, there are usually extremists who feel their side gave up too much, feel betrayed by their leaders, and wish to continue the fight.

Right, but this attack doesn't line up with the divides in the civil war at all. Christians are a tiny minority in the country and the Tigers were generally non-denominational, or Hindu if anything.
In previous attacks there, those were perpetrated by your typical Muslim extremists against Christians. A likely case, but we'll have to see where the evidence goes.

I was surprised by this too. Hindu Tamils in the north, who lost the civil war in 2009, and Buddhist majority in the south.

Pretty severe by the sounds of it. 205 dead and more than 450 injured. That is horrible.

I have two thoughts on this that conflict
1) The Bombers have lost their humanity
2) Human nature is inherently violent

I guess the truly terrible thing this reveals is that one religion was able to motivate people to attack a different religion for their difference in beliefs, just like in Christchurch.

Human nature is of course inherently violent. It's amazing how the 21st century world has become educated and tolerant. An achievement we should all be proud of.
From the start, when Caveman A went a little too far and met Caveman B, his first though was to kill him.

1. Freedom of religion and association is a fundamental part of any free society.
2. When you target a specific religion, it creates fear in the members of that religion. Children, families, etc..
3. People have their guard down during religious ceremonies.
This is much worse than a random public shooting. There's a reason why almost every human rights group includes measures against targeting people for their religion, in addition to refer, sexuality, etc..

This has nothing to do with religion. The same could be said about people who prefer to frequent gay clubs and their communities, or viewers of Batman movies, or children attending school.... They were all comfortable in a place they should feel safe with a community of people who shared their values or interests or experiences.
It's sad people where attacked, and its sad that this attack was clearly motivated by religion. But no more so than other attacks motivated by bigotry or delusions of grandeur.

I'd agree that attacks that target gay clubs are equally reprehensible. Any attack that targets a specific group of people, particularly a minority group falls into this category.
I was responding to a post that said this said this was no different than a random shooting at a mall. It was very different. These events targeted a religious monitory.
