Would they take the shameless statue of Ted and his 17 years of ownership, down outside the stadium too?
“Free up capital for other projects” is such a typical sleezy slimy lie that only the PR staff at Rogers can come up with.
They could come up with that same $ by raising rates to customers by $10 a month per year (and will probably do that anyway), so it’s clearly a sell job because they’re such a scatterbrained fly by the seat of their pants company that thinks their gifted monopoly out east means they’re a smart company, but terrible customer service, half baked ideas (digital magazine subscriptions) gets put up with.
Any purchasers however would have stadium upgrades to complete (another idea Rogers half heartedly has gotten behind, but likely won’t follow through, especially now) to make Rogers Centre at all a viable financially profitable venue as it nears 30 years old.
And yeah, Donaldson gone sooner the later. No JB, Encarnacion. Gibby likely in his last couple seasons...a totally different team as it starts pushing down on the reset button in the next two years, that had its window the last couple years prior to this one...and got screwed big time in Game 6 vs KC or they well could’ve gone on and won the WS 2 years ago.

Whose got enough money to buy the team from Rogers though? MLB is not a fan of corporate ownership. Would probably push for a private ownership group.

All eyes go to MLSE, IMO.
If Montreal could get their act together, could you imagine someone buying them and moving them to a new Montreal stadium?

MLSE is the obvious answer, but like I said, MLB hates corporate ownership. If they got rid of it in Toronto, they only have Seattle left.
Toronto is a top 10 revenue team in the league (probably top 5 over the past couple of years). There’s zero chance the team moves. Montreal steaming them would be hilarious this until the riots in the streets broke out in DT Toronto..

MLSE... I could see Bell Media buying them if Rogers isn't opposed to selling an asset to it's competition. Move Blue Jay broadcasts to TSN.

Now that the Ohtani deal is done, the logjam of dominos will start to fall.
This has been historically the slowest offseason in quite some time as far as free agents go.

I swear LA Angels... you are wasting the career of Mike Trout, if you waste the career of Trout & Ohtani I'm gonna huck rocks at you.

Im loving what Billy Eppler has done since coming on board. Can't wait for the season to start. Let's go Halos!

They've got some... issues. I mean they have Trout (who is amazing... hate Jays having to face him but it's such a privilege & joy to watch him play baseball) and now Ohtani... but their infield is a mess offensively, their bullpen stinks, and the durability of their rotation is highly suspect.
Plus they have the withered husk of Albert Pujols eating up a ton of money.
They've got a lot of work to do still.

Sounds like Stanton is being traded to the Yanks. Great.

I think Stanton still has to approve, but the Yanks were one of the teams on his short list, so I’d be surprised if it doesn’t happen.
Some funny comments on how Jeter goes to Miami and then helps out New York by sending Stanton to the Yanks. Wonder what the return is, all I’ve seen is Castro +

Jays should be moving Donaldson to St.L immediately.
No chance in their div, and St.L is probably semi desperate after Stanton.
Start the rebuild NOW.

Agreed, Jays have done next to nothing this off season
(basically same thing as last off season)
They need to rebuild

I think you try and trade Donaldson now, but at the same time don't just panic sell since the offers are likely to be poor with Josh being a UFA after this year. Might be best to hold off trading him until the deadline and hoping a potential contender has injuries and overpays out of desperation.

Rogers will attempt to patch together something competitive (including keeping Donaldson) and keep whatever ticket sales they can as they try to sell the team with the highest possible revenue.
Unfortunately, a rebuild won't be started until it's too late. Either when Roger's decides to keep the team or a new owner comes in.
