The last part is sad to read. I'll always be rooting for Kylington. Can't imagine what that would do to a person when the best option for them is to cut their family out of their life.

Yup, just like he always was since coming into the Flames organization. Some of the characterizations of him recently never made any sense when you looked at his history.

The last slide talks about him no longer having relationships with his family anymore, which led to the whole mental illness issue. I am guessing that it's about money, maybe family members were hounding him for financial support - the classic "a family member becomes rich and famous, let's see if I can skim some money off him" scenario...

If he is truly a class act, he can donate a large portion of the money he made from the Flames the past 2 seasons to organizations that help people dealing with mental illness. I think most Flames fans will understand/forgive him if he does that after taking close to $5 mil and only showed up for 33 games....

Whoa. the Family has been cut off. thats wild. dont need details but im really happy to hear it wasnt a substance abuse issue or any such thing about Shilly himself.
no wonder he needed to take so much time. how can one really navgate toxic family issues and still compete regularly.
All the best to the guy. hope he has a big year.

Probably a good idea to not speculate too much about the last part of that slide....
I'm still disappointed it's ending this way because I still think there could be a decent player here. I can understand if changing the Environment is something he decided might benefit him. I do hope that he can resurrect things and play a few more years. He appears to be willing to start at the bottom and take on a challenge. So I can respect that and wish him well. I'd never boo the guy, but I'd roll my eyes if he got a video tribute.

Most fans already understand him. And the only ones who feel they have something they need to forgive him for are a type of people I’m not allowed to describe or else people will call me a jerk online.
He doesn’t need to do anything to be a class act, he already is. Time to let it go.

Do players who blow their ACL donate a large part of their salary they collected while rehabbing to others who have blown their ACLs?
Just wondering.

If he was really a class act he would personally meet with every season ticket holder, explain himself, apologize, and then give them each $200 (cash).

Methinks one doth protesteth too mucheth. No wonder you wound like a jilted lover. It's okay if you want to admit you find Kylington sexy. You'd be surprised at how accepting this community is.

The old "whoever smelt it, dealt it" routine. Just because I noticed how far more fans point out his appearance than any other player in recent memory, suddenly makes me some sort of closet case?
Come on. No need to do that. I don't like the way that Kylington treated the team in return for how he was treated, end of story. And for some reason, his departure hits everyone different than several other "assets" we lost for nothing.
Either everyone was just joking, but on social media (perhaps here less than on Reddit) this player has generated more swooning from thirsty fans than probably anyone else.
Sure, you could chalk up comments such as this as just a take on the "Stupid Sexy Flanders" comment from Homer Simpson...

Hearing it involves his parents definitely adds a little more to the backstory.
“ The story behind Oliver Kylington’s year-and-a-half battle back to the NHL is one of trauma and betrayal.”
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/i-felt-...battle/?sn-amp
I personally don’t mind if we never hear the full story about his trauma or about the contract negotiations. I think virtually nobody here has enough information to make the strong negative judgements on the situation that have been rampant around here.
My thought since free agency is that there is a strong possibility that he was seeking a multiyear deal, even just two years, for the sake of stability and his mental health. I think it’s overly presumptuous for so many people to assume greed was the main driver.
Despite a multi-year contract not panning out for him, maybe there were some possibilities and it can be hard to know for sure without shopping sometimes. Despite it leading to a painful departure from the Flames, it still may have been the right move to try, especially seeing as he didn’t end up as a PTO or on a garbage team.
I’m happy that he has this new opportunity and it’s great that both sides are excited about it. I hope he has a great season in Colorado and wish him all the best going forward in his career and life.

Absolutely ridiculous.
Are you really unaware of how much less his actual take home pay was or do you just feel the need for exaggeration to make a point?
Do you know his personal financial situation? Are you not aware he could actually be in debt right now seeing as pro athletes get screwed over from people close to them countless times?
Why do you care where the money goes if the Flames don’t have it? How do you know he doesn’t need the financial supoort for his mental health as much as organizations that you speak of?
Do you feel the same way about players who have career disrupting/ ending injuries too or do you just love good old-fashioned stigmatization of mental health issues that the world is moving away from?
Are you really trying to say he can’t be a class act without giving a bunch of his money away?
