In 2017 in the US, 10,000 cold temperature records were broken. In the same year, 30,000 warm temperature records were broken. Three times as many. Just because we have cold days, doesn't mean climate change is a hoax.

Also, warm air holds more water than cold air. If the temperature falls enough, that moisture ends up falling as snow. So some of these freak snowstorms we've seen over the last few years (especially on the east coast) are actually consistent with what the climate change models predict.

As for the argument that little Greta trusts in the science behind climate change, it's a bit ironic that she's against the pipeline expansion. She'd rather believe in Hollywood shrills like DiCaprio who just go "tarsands! bad!", rather than actually read the research and see there's been continuous efforts to improve on emissions, while finding a more ecological way to transport oil by pipeline rather than through railcars. But hey, apparently rail (like the one she's riding on right there) run on pixie dust and unicorn magic.

There's absolutely no reason to care at all what a sixteen year old thinks about the issue, regardless of whether she's for the TMX expansion or not.

This is, as I said in the Canadian politics thread, just the left wing version of Joe the Plumber. A completely irrelevant individual elevated to symbolic, cult figure status more or less by complete accident.

I’m actually undecided what is worse on an individual level. Grown adults taking cues on climate change from a 16-year old girl, or grown adults openly mocking a 16-year old girl.

Both, to me, seem incredibly embarrassing. She’s 16.

You know why? Because even though both want attention drawn to a problem the convoy had this crazy thing called a solution, a solution that the Federal government in Ottawa has direct control over. The problem is the economic decay of their communities and the solution is the Federal government allowing pipeline projects to proceed and shelving their damaging legislation. Problem, solution, petitioning to those in charge of the solution. Pretty far cry from a bunch of people in a country responsible for 1.7% of the problem demanding...?? Don't you think?
