Both the German and Canadian finishing was abysmal. The roll of the dice in PKs was probably a fair result.

Wow are we awful PK takers. It's like hitting the keeper in the torso was the objective.

I'm not the greatest Penalty Taker in the world, but through my playing days I was always one of the first picked.

And frankly, I've always subscribed to the 'British-method.'

No cute run-ups, no panenkas, no gambles, no 'firing it down the middle hoping the goalie guesses one way or another.'

I’m a fan of that method myself, but it should be noted that England go out in almost every major tournament on penalties.

Clever. And while my memory isn't perfect, the only time I can remember missing was when the goalkeeper guessed the right way, but it hit him in the face and broke his nose and I casually slotted the rebound into the net.

Man as bad as the Canadian penalties were, the Germans were just spectacular. Just unsavable.

Its an obvious scenario where they're taught all their lives to do one thing but watch other people on TV do another that they're not trained to do.

The moment you're of 'two-minds' is when you make mistakes.

The conversion rate for penalties in Soccer is high, like what? 80%? Minimum? Pick a spot and put your boot through it.

Even if the goalie guesses right, odds are they're still out of luck if you hit it hard enough.

Penalties were converted at an 89% success rate in the English Premier league last season, the highest ever. However, according to this great article on Wikipedia, it was only 65% in the last Women's World Cup.
