Flipboard is a good "first app" - it'll show off the iPad, get you used to linking apps (eg. signing into your twitter, google reader, and facebook feeds), and is generally an example of a well executed app all around.

You have to go through the Blackberry App World to get Android Apps, I don't know what it's like after that.
I returned my Playbook after I found out that Android apps will go through the Blackberry App World and not it's own Android Market Google Play App.

You can also load apps by yourself if you have the apk file for the app.

Head to Crackberry forums, Playbook section and it'll be hidden in there somewhere, instructions and whatnot. Better place if you've got general playbook questions.

Anybody with the transformer prime getting a notice to double you battery life to download something but when you download it, it says it wont download cause its not from the android market. I know I can change my settings to allow it but is it a legit download or some virus crap?

Never seen it, I doubt it is legit. One of those, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".
I don't have battery issues - a charge lasts a decent length of time and I can plug in the keyboard if I need it to last longer.

RIM planning to remove the ability to sideload android apps.
Quote:
While BlackBerry App World doesn't have anywhere near the volume of apps that Android enjoys, it's apparently more profitable, and Saunders claims that there are developers who refuse to work with RIM until sideloading support is removed.

If Android's ecosystem is a cesspool, the playbook ecosystem is a dead zone:

I'll order one but my unit didn't have the GPS issues anyways. I was always able to get a gps lock. Some people reported that they were never able to get a lock, so to them this would be a godsend because otherwise it is a great unit. But for myself, there is no rush.

For books I would get the Sony E-Reader, I have used that and the Kobo and the Sony one is better hands down, faster response times and was just an easier system to use (in my opinion of course)
Plus right now they are 20 dollars off at future shop (129.99)

Is it the Kobo Vox that you are looking into? I wouldn't really classify it as an E-Reader per say, it is more of a tablet and as such it is going to have the same issues with reading text - in that it is going to be bright and it is going to have glare. Frankly, if you are looking for an e-reader, I would suggest getting an e-reader to do the job, it is lighter and the screen is better suited for it. If you are looking for a tablet in the 200 dollar range, I would get a playbook, they are better than the Vox having used both and you can get e-reader applications for it which do what you are looking for, including a kobo app.

I've yet to read a positive review on the Kobo Vox. There are loads of tablets under $299 and they'll all have the Kindle app, which is really all the average person needs for an e-reader.
