Well, this is rather (refreshingly) honest from Samsung:

http://asia.cnet.com/crave/samsung-w...t-62213654.htm

Samsung Electronics admitted that its attempt to breach the tablet market has largely been a flop, with one executive offering a sobering summary of its performance. "Honestly, we're not doing very well in the tablet market," Hankil Yoon, a product strategy executive for Samsung, said today during a media roundtable here.

They can afford to say it given that they have the best-selling Galaxy lineup.

Best-selling, in which regard?

They have the Galaxy phones and tablets that have sold the most. No other manufacturer has sold more Galaxy products than them.

Not to hate on Samsung, but exactly how many "Galaxy" products do they have in comparison to the next comparable line?...

I have no idea, I was just was playing on the fact that Samsung having the best selling Galaxy smart phone means nothing if they are the only company that makes galaxy smart phones.

I assume that wasn't what Azure actually meant though.

No I just meant that they have a best-selling line of phones.

No other Android phone comes close, last time I checked, which is why they can get away with not doing good in the tablet market.

ars technica were checking out their server logs and they noticed a new entry - looks like someone from Apple must be surfing ars using the new iPad 3

Quote:
While digging through our logs in preparation for our monthly browser stat report, we found 346 (update: actually 365) visits from a device with a screen resolution of 2048x1536—the exact resolution rumored for the "retina" display in the next-generation iPad.

Isn't Samsung the ONLY manufacturer with a Galaxy lineup?

Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy Tab
Galaxy SII
Galaxy S

Yeah, and?

Point is they have created a lineup of phones that are extremely popular. More popular than what Motorola has done with the Droid.

The wording of your original post implied that Samsung made the best Galaxy phones, not that the Galaxy phone was a best selling phone.

Meh, I took it as Samsung has a best-selling line of devices called Galaxy. It could have been worded more clearly, but the point of the post is still valid. Samsung has done extremely well in the phone market, but it hasn't really translated into tablet sales. The scarier thing (IMO) is the thought of a bunch of the big players throwing in the towel and just letting Apple have the market.

Don't get me wrong, the iPad is awesome. I just like having some serious competition to push innovation.

Im sorry as I'm sure this has been asked many times on here but 43 pages is a lot to go through. What is the general thought on whats better between the playbook and the new Ipad when taking price and specs into consideration??

Thanks in advance!

If your budget maxes out at $200, get a Playbook.
Otherwise, get an iPad.

Or in a more honest assessment, if apps, game, ease of use and cachet are important, get an iPad.

If you use your tablet for work functions like presentations email reviewing and editing docs, the Playbook is more powerful, IMO. I also think that the playbook is a better media player and a more functional size, although that's probably purely personal.

I've played with both and I don't find either better as a browser although the screen real estate certainly is noticeable on the iPad. I do find that most apps I need can be replicated on the web with the playbook, and I really don't feel left out.

No, I was being pretty honest. The iPad really doesn't have serious competition yet. But a $200 Playbook is excellent value for the dollar, and far better (imo) than any Android tablets at $200.

I agree with Mick on this.

If you have the money, get an iPad, you won't be sorry. However for 1/3 the price, a playbook will do what you need, but perhaps not as 'slick' and you won't have as many options for apps, but the majority of what you need will be available. I think it is the best value out there for a tablet, as long as you are not demanding the best features.
