Good call, CroCop seemed to have inside info on Versteeg and Setoguchi signing with us.

That's good news I would say. So was Edmonton never in the mix?

Here we go again...
Why he would want to go to Boston again is beyond me

He bought some property there as it has been documented. His kids want to enter the hockey programs in Boston, so why not? Of course I would prefer him here in Calgary, but it makes sense if he purchased a home there.

It pretty much comes down to two choices. If he has given up hope on a SC run then Boston makes sense. He built a house there and obviously plans to live there after his career is finished. If he wants to try one last run at the playoffs and a SC the Flames make way more sense, they are a legit contender now and he always said he wanted to win it here. Plus it isn't like there is not great hockey programs in Calgary his kids could participate in for this year. Seems like a no brainer to me. That being said despite the nostalgia of it I would rather we just stick to the current roster.

The die-hard fan in me wants to see it happen purely for nostalgia sake and the story it would be (not to mention it would be great to see a few people on here go into full fledged melt-down mode over it). It's what cheering for a sports team is all about.
However part of me feels like the trade deadline last season was the right time and now with the surplus of bodies up front going into this season it creates some uncertainty with regard to a log-jam in the system.
Forget arguing about the lines for a moment... I think these players are 110% settled on as top nine players by most fans:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Bennett - _______
_______ - _______ - _______
In my eyes (without Iginla in the equation) that leaves the following seven players fighting for four starting spots with one warm body in the press box
- Brouwer
- Lazar
- Stajan
- Hathaway
- Jankowski
- F Hamilton
- Foo
Unless someone is traded to make room I don't quite get it.

I wouldn't want to see anything more than a PTO offered at this point for Iginla. If he can keep up and back check then sign him. If he still fancies himself as the #1 winger, then I would avoid him. It would be sad to see him come back to the Flames just to bomb or end up on waivers.

I don't think he or anyone else feels he is a #1 RW at this point. He would be a 3rd/4th liner with possible PP time.

I love how committed Johnny is to the Flames. Guy wants to win in the worst way. I'm predicting a monster year for him next season.

I like the sound of a Versteeg-Bennett-Iginla 3rd line, I think Iginla would be a good influence on Sam. I am expecting he'd prefer to be close to his family and will go to Boston though I really hope this happens, I will be all in on this season from first puck drop.
Hard to imagine how that 4th line comes together though. Stajan is a fixture. Brouwer almost can't be dropped based on his salary. That leaves one slot at LW. Lazar is a right shot so that might bump him out of the lineup unless he can play his off wing or they move Stajan over. Hamilton is another right shot and probably becomes the 13th forward - I know lots won't like it but Gazdic is the 14th for me, perfect press box guy who can come in 15-20 games a year when needed.
Probably Hathaway with the inside track unless Janko dominates camp and they wanna play him out of position or Lazar goes to his off wing.
