Vasek's made $360K this year which sounds like a lot but then you have to factor in other expenses. Things like taxes, travel, coaches, accommodations, ect. It's a very uneven playing field when you have players like Serena, Nadal, Djoker and Fed all with well over $100 Million in prize and endorsement money playing young players with less than 1% of that.

I think Joker got angry after losing the first set to the anti-tennis king and wiped Mannarino off the court taking the next two sets by 6-2 and 6-1 set scores.

That break at 5-5 by Milos might be one of the best series of returns i've ever seen him hit. Three absolutely hammered returns. All over the service game of Jaziri.

So we get Denis / Raonic next?

Yup, this time on the hard court (last meeting was on clay which Denis won).

I think Vasek has a residence in the Bahamas as a tax haven, but all the other expenses you listed are certainly valid.

Most coaches of this calibre of player earn anywhere from $50-$100k per year depending on the arrangement. So yes, you're right, this is a large expense in addition to travel, food, accommodation etc that can be misleading. You have to keep in mind that even after tax and travel, coaching we're still talking about players in the second tier clearing $75-$100k net income a year depending on how successful they are and what kind of endorsement contracts they have, some of which can be very lucrative in addition to winnings.
I don't think it is unfair at all for these types of players to have to pay their dues before getting a sniff of what players in the top 50 bring in let alone outliers like Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Serena etc.

There's an excellent interview with Vasek here:

It was published yesterday. It's lengthy but well worth the read. I especially appreciate his comments about the Davis Cup changes.

There was a comparison that a #100 ranked golfer on the money list makes more than $1 million yet a #100 ranked tennis player makes less than $100,000.

Really glad that Milos was able to get his match in before the skies opened.

If a guy like Dustin Brown, for example was making $500K a year for playing pretty bad tennis all season I don't think that makes much sense either. You should have to be very good to enjoy all the perks and cash in. If prize money rises at the bottom, it will surely rise throughout the rest of the ranks. As it should, with these major tournaments creating record profits of late.

So who should we cheer for with Raonic vs. Shapovalov? For all the tennis wizards out there, what would Raonic's ranking be heading into the US Open if he won? How about Shapovalov?

Tough choice, I just hope neither guy gets injured prior to the US Open. As for who I think will win, I give a slight edge to Milos, I think Denis will be feeling the pressure on his own service games knowing how tough it is to break Milos on hard court. Would not be surprised to see 2 if not 3 sets going to tie-breakers.
