Icon48 The 2020 Trade Deadline!!! No trades past 1:00 PM Mountain!

Welcome one, welcome all to one of the best days of the hockey season: the trade deadline! Today, we'll likely see a flurry of activity as teams do all they can to either stock up for the playoffs or sell for the draft. Or, if they're in the mushy middle, they can... do nothing. Exciting!

As a reminder, TDL coverage can be found on both Sportsnet and TSN starting very early in the morning (around 8 AM last I checked? someone please work to confirm) and going until around an hour after the 1:00 PM MT deadline!

One more note: yes, trades can be processed after the deadline! There is a common misconception that this is not the case but it happens almost every year! The only restriction on making trades after the deadline? The players involved cannot participate in the playoffs. Pretty big caveat. A player has to be on a team's reserve list or its roster at the deadline to be eligible to play in the big dance.

This is my fifth year making one of these GDTs and this time, I'm going to take a bit of a different approach. Instead of just making a list of the Top 50 available targets, I'm going to be looking at each team individually and assess their top trade targets and their needs!

Oh, but I'll still be creating a Top 50 list, because screw it.

But before all that, here are some supplementary resources.

Supplementary resources:

Without further ado, here's the Top 50 targets.

When is the roster limit lifted? Is there a window so that players are playoff eligible without using one of the four call ups, yet not being over the current limit?

I predict a boring trade deadline- similar to most of the last few years, if not worse.

It appears NJ is missing a 2nd and a 3rd rounder this year, allow me to remedy that for Palmieri and I'll even add a Jankowski

I fully expect Tre to pull a rabbit out of the hat and land us a franchise center with term using a plethora of picks/prospects. This is potentially the only issue with this roster.

Johnny "Franchise Center" Lindholm
Tkachuk Monahan Mangiapane
Reider Backlund Ryan
Lucic Bennett Dube

Giordano Brodie
Hanifin Andersson
Valimaki Kylington/Hamonic

You are setting yourself up for disappointment my friend, I think we’re going to grab some like Grabner and call it a day.

I would like to see us offer some B-assets for Connor Brown. He'd be such a good fit here.

Nice work Scorpion.

Prediction: Buffalo moves Michael Frolik for something more than a 4th rounder, and the board goes berserk.

Who goes more berserk, us or the fans of the team that pays more that a 4th?

Why is Taylor Hall on the trading block again? Is Arizona given up on making the playoffs now?

You put a lot of work into that Scorp! I'm impressed with your knowledge of the game and how you analyze things.

I only put him on the Top 50 list because there's been some speculation that they might try to move him in case they miss the playoffs and then lose him for nothing

Starting to look like a bit of a shortsighted move to acquire him in the first place given how far the Coyotes have fallen since he arrived

I think Arizona doubles down now for the time they’ve got Hall and have a shot of getting in.

I have the following Team Outlooks written

Anaheim
Arizona
Boston
Buffalo
Calgary
Carolina
Chicago
Colorado
Columbus
Dallas
Detroit
Edmonton

Hey that's almost half the league, neat! Anyway I suggest you read them when you get the chance, the plan is to have all 31 teams done tonight. I hope it's informative! The OP will be updated also with further information and of course will be kept up-to-date as trades happen.

Also please continue posting rumours in the stickied News Only thread, thanks to those of you who have done so thus far.

The 23 man roster limit is lifted as of midnight on deadline day. From now until the end of the season, a team can have as many players on its active roster as it wants as long as the roster is cap compliant.

Any player who is on a team's reserve list at the deadline (3:00pm ET, 1:00pm MT) is eligible to play in the NHL playoffs.

Any player who was on a team's reserve list but not on the active roster at the trade deadline (such as a junior or college player, a player in the AHL, or an injured player) is still eligible to play in the NHL for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs. These players (except injured players -- subject to some conditions) are also eligible to play in the AHL playoffs. Players who are on an NHL team's active roster at the deadline are not eligible to be sent to the AHL except in certain situations for post-injury conditioning loans.

Teams can only make a total of 4 recalls from the AHL between the trade deadline and the end of the regular season (players can be added from junior or college without counting against the recall limit -- but are still subject to the cap). Once the playoffs begin, a team can have up to a maximum of 3 players recalled from the AHL since the trade deadline on its roster at any one time until the AHL team's season has ended (they can have 4 recalled players if all players were recalled during the regular season). Once the AHL team is done playing, there is no limit on the number of "Black Aces" an NHL team can have during the playoffs.

This year, for the Flames, Valimaki presents an interesting case because he is on the Flames roster on LTIR. As such, I believe the following section of the CBA applies to his situation and he should be eligible for a loan to the AHL if he is cleared to play soon...
